    3. We do not have Marin County roots, but the Kin Tracer does make a significant contribution to our society. If it does go on-line people will read part and delete it. What if we consider broadening it to include other parts of Northern California. Just a thought. 2. Jami Davis
    3. Joanne Rowlands and I figured out the cost per member for the KinTracer--this is ball park as we were remembering figures. I was not in front of my computer. This is what started the discussion in the board meeting about digitizing the KinTracer. It costs the society about $30 dollars per year per member just for the KinTracer. This does not include $100 per year for mailing the newsletter to members who prefer hard copies; $50-$75 for each speaker who visits us from outside our society; copy costs for handouts; office supplies, etc. We run a really lean organization. To further complicate the KinTracer mailing--bulk mail requires 200 pieces but we have less than 150 pieces. We still get charged for 200. Another board member is checking the cost of other types of mailing for the KinTracer. The biggest help to MCGS would be more members. We have lost about 100 members since 2000, if I am remembering my figures correctly. 3. How about leaving dues the same and charging ($5 or whatever) for an OPTIONAL subscription to the Kin Tracer (to be mailed). Also put it on the web site for those who would like to look at it there. 2. I prefer mail. In a message dated 3/28/2009 2:57:00 P.M. Pacific Daylight Time, genetin@sbcglobal.net writes: As with every organization, we are looking to cut costs. At a recent board meeting, we discussed the option of emailing the KinTracer to the membership. We would save money on printing, postage and associated costs. We would like your opinion. Would you like to receive the KinTracer online? Would you like to continue to receive the KinTracer by mail? Would you be willing to pay higher membership dues to continue to receive it by mail? Please let us know your thoughts. 3. Yes, I would like to continue to receive the KinTracer by mail as I have a magazine library that I try to keep current for those I'm helping with their genealogy. A possible savings on postage would be to just hand it out at the meetings (checking off each member who has picked up his or her copy, of course). I would be willing to pay for increased costs, however. For those of us content with the online version, upload .pdfs.
