Suzane Smith has written an article entitled "100 Genealogy Resources to Discover Your Ancestry." Dick Eastman suggests ". a list like this should be given to every genealogy novice. This list does look good." I agree! What a great tool to help you with your research whether you're a beginner or an experienced researcher. We've presented lists like this several times in presentations but this one is current and offers a great explanation of each website. Plus it has a direct link to the website. Enjoy! >From Mark Tucker's ThinkGenealogy blog: GenSeek is the Web 2.0 replacement for the Family History Library Catalog. It is expected to release soon, but has no published release date. I have been thinking of a common way genealogy researchers use the FHLC and how it could be improved in GenSeek. Before a trip to the Family History Library, many researchers use the FHLC to find sources they want.... Yes! This is the way to go. This specifics of accomplishing it however are daunting. It doesn't seem like one would actually put the info into a genealogy program as it would get too big. Perhaps somehow links could be used. When one doesn't have a whole lot of computer skills, it becomes difficult. Any ideas? This fits in with the CIG presentation last Saturday by Jo Ann. Interesting reading. However, I have to disagree with Dick just a little. I use Adobe Reader and Acrobat all the time and while there are issues with security, they can easily be fixed. Refer to my blog entry last month about security fixes for Adobe Reader. You can easily change your preferences in Adobe Reader that will open a new pdf file in a new Adobe Reader window rather than your web browser. An interesting article by a genealogist who discusses how many genealogy magazines are being published electronically rather than the traditional printed format and how he views the trend. Given the recent discussion by MCGS about publishing it's KIN Tracer electronically, this article adds more discussion to the subject for the Board's consideration. Many genealogy associations have made the decision to use this exciting new publishing technology and while there were many challenges along the way, the majority of opinions seem to say that most of their Members agree publishing electronically is the better method.
