    2. Lauren Boyd McLachlan
    3. Dear All: Membership with the Marin County Genealogical Society is not required to subscribe to the maringensoc@rootsweb.com list. Not everyone subscribed to this email discussion list is a current member of the Marin County Genealogical Society and therefore, not all subscribed will have access to the Members Only area of the Society's web site. If you want access, you will need to ensure your dues are paid and current with the Society. If you have not supplied your CURRENT email address to Esther Mott in the last several months.... or in years, please ensure she has it so you can have access to the Members Only Area. ( Especially true for LIFE members!) Account IDs were set up based on what the Society has on record for you. Subscription to this list is NOT the same as submitting your info to the Society. The subscription information for the MarinGenSoc list subscribers is housed at Rootsweb.com and is not visible by, nor supplied to, the Society Registrar. Your names are not listed with your email addresses when you are subscribed to the list. IF you are having trouble accessing the Members Only area of the Society's new website, you will be best served to contact Gene Pennington <genepenn1@comcast.net> and Esther Mott <emott6@comcast.net> at their personal email addresses rather than via this list.... especially if you feel the need to send an attachment that shows error messages, etc. If you have not submitted your dues to the Society you have by now fallen off the rolls and won't be able to gain access until your dues are paid. I know you won't want to be missing the Kin Tracer! and the other goodies planned for the Members Only area. Please submit your updated application and your dues to the Society at PO Box 1511, Novato, CA 94948-1511. Dues are due in September each year. The Society relies on membership dues to continue to provide all of the valued services it offers. Please DO renew your dues, or join the Society, support it as it has supported you and others in your quest for Family History. Help it to continue. Happy Trails, Lauren MarinGenSoc List Admin

I have written to you Gene, Jim and also Cathy over the past couple of years and my address has always been recognized. Have I been dropped along the way somewhere. 2. OK everyone. It's time for class. Go to our new web address http://mcgs.camp9.org/ On the left hand side click on "Members-only" Click on "Premium Content" Click on "KinTracer" My AOL browser is dreadful. There are many websites that do not come up properly when I use it. Therefore, I enter the URL for these sites in my Firefox browser and wonder-of-wonders, I'm THERE! Try it and see if it works for you. If it doesn't, I have no idea what is wrong. Time to contact Gene Pennington - guess he sort of has the role of the Lone Ranger at this point. genepenn1@comcast.net Cathy Marin Co., CA

    1. Re: [MarinGenSoc] new website
    2. Lauren Boyd McLachlan
    3. Hello All: I had issues the first time I tried to access the website. An old email address was used as my log in. AND there was a typo in it. That was a block. HOWEVER -- Gene and Esther worked with me and got the bumps out. I now can access it easily. So.... my suggestion is that if you are unable to access the website's member area, you write to Gene Pennington <genepenn1@comcast.net> and Esther Mott <emott6@comcast.net> privately to ensure they have the correct email address for your login and that there are no differences between what you type and what they entered for your account to be established. This is still a new thing and there's likely a few bumps to work through. The website is *very* easy to use. Cathy -- I miss being able to thumb through the Kin Tracer and be able to hand it off to others when I am finished with it. However, I have to say, I like that the Society is saving money spent to print it -- thus enabling it to continue --- and I like that the photos are more clear and we can see the colors. As an added boon, for those with challenges reading regular print, it can be "blown up" to 400% if need be to be able to read the content. Now the only limit to content is file size! lol Happy Trails, Lauren MarinGenSoc List Admin

    2. Gene Pennington
    3. Thanks to Esther for forwarding the instructions. Below is a little more information if you need it. I added some explanation about the MCGS Domain name (www.maringensoc.org) to clear up the confusion between the OLD and NEW websites. I hope this helps. 1. The NEW website address is http://mcgs.camp9.org/. 2. The OLD website address is www.maringensoc.org. This is our Domain name that MCGS owns. At this time it connects to our OLD website pages. 3. We will SOON be changing the connection for our Domain name (www.maringensoc.org) so it will connect to our NEW website. No specific date has been set for this change but we're working to complete this change. 4. Most of the NEW website at http://mcgs.camp9.org/ is visible to anybody who visit it (i.e., the PUBLIC). 5. The NEW website has a MCGS Members only section that can ONLY be viewed by current MCGS 2010 Members. That is where the KIN Tracer and Member Directory are located. 6. To view the Members only section, you must login. 7. IF you have NEVER signed in to the website before, the easiest way to login the first time is to click on the "Forgot password" link by the login box. This is located on the LOWER LEFT of the window below the last section. 8. AFTER you click on the "Forgot password" link by the login box, a window will open asking you to enter the e-mail address you gave to MCGS with your membership application. Once you follow the directions to do this, it will send a message to you with instructions. 9. IF you are NOT a current MCGS 2010 Member, please contact Esther Mott, Registrar or click on the link on the left side that says "Join MCGS" and download a membership application and mail it to Esther. Esther's e-mail is linked to her name on the "Join MCGS" membership application page. If you need more help, contact me at webmaster@maringensoc.org. 1. [MarinGenSoc] MCGS Website -- How to Update your Member Profile
    2. Esther Mott
    3. Again, below are Gene's instructions. Please note that if your CURRENT email address is not entered in your profile, you will not receive the emails that go out when the Kin Tracer goes up on the site, or the dues notice next fall. Being subscribed to this mailing list, DOES NOT MEAN that we have your current email address in our database. If you change your email address later in the year, be sure to correct your profile! We hope you've enjoyed your visit to the new MCGS website. Now that you've been there and looked around, it's time to update your Member Profile. While it may seem like there are a lot of steps, it will go quickly. It is not as difficult as it may seem at first. Take your time. You can always go back and change something if you change your mind or make a mistake. Once you've successfully signed in to the website, follow these steps to update your Member profile. 1.. Login on the lower left corner of the page at http://mcgs.camp9.org/ 2.. Click "View profile" 3.. Click "Edit profile" and make the following changes: a. You MUST check the "Terms of Use" box to agree or won't be allowed to use website. b. You MUST check the "Consent to Use Your Information" box or won't be allowed to use website. c. You MUST check EITHER the ""Yes" or "Yes but please do not publish my name on any public membership list." a.. You can add a personal photo if you want. b.. You can add personal website address if you want. Click "Save" to save changes 1. Click "View Profile" 2. Click "Privacy" 3. The default is shown but you can change it. If it is OK as shown, leave it alone. If you want to change it, select EITHER option #1 or option #2 below. Option #1. - Completely removes your profile details from viewing by MCGS Members. Think carefully about selecting At the top is "Allow to show profile". Next is a box with a check mark in it (default). IF you do NOT want anybody to see ANY of your profile (i.e. the information shown below in the "Details" window, CLICK ON THE BOX TO REMOVE THE CHECK MARK. This will remove your profile information so NOBODY (except web site administrator/s) can view your information. Click "Save" to save changes Option #2. Allows you to determine what details MCGS Members can view. Click on "Edit profile" The default will be show with each "dot" showing a blue circle in it for those allowed to see certain details in your profile. PLEASE NOTE: By default there are NO checks for "Anybody" (public). DO NOT click any boxes under "Anybody" unless you want the public (anybody) to view the information. IF you want to change any of the details, click on those boxes you do want to change. For example, you may want your first, last and spouses names and e-mail address show so leave them alone (i.e. a blue circle in the button) but you do NOT want other MCGS members to see your phone, address so you can UNCHECK them. Click "Save" to save changes Return to your profile to be sure it is listed the way you want it listed. Contact Gene Pennington (genepenn1@gmail.com) if you have any questions or need help.
