    1. [MarinGenSoc] MCGS April 28 Meeting Reminder
    2. Bill Bryant
    3. While reading my daily newspaper I occasionally browse the obituary section, looking--and sometimes finding--familiar names who have passed on. In genealogy this casual approach can be a start to more serious research on the long journey to find our ancestors. Just how to develop a truly effective use of newspaper research is the subject at this Wednesday's meeting, "Extra! Extra! Your Ancestors Are in the Newspaper." The presenter will be Pamela Dallas who is well known in national and local genealogical circles for her expertise on newspaper research, including instructional work on TV and radio. I for one have yet to become fully prepared and involved in finding the genealogical treasures awaiting us in newspapers. This is my/our chance, 7:30 pm at the LDS. See you there, Bill Bryant, MCGS Secretary (retiring)

    2. Lauren Boyd McLachlan
    3. Dear Listers: When reading and replying to email you receive please check the address lines -- One will let you know that it came from the MarinGenSoc list and went out to ALL Subscribers. When you reply -- please ensure you are sending to where you think you are and where might be most appropriate. IF your reply has a bearing on the entire group of 100+ people subscribed to the list, then go ahead and address it to maringensoc@rootsweb.com IF your reply really is meant for an individual, or is more appropriate to send to ONE person and is not of value to the entire group of 100+ subscribers, then ensure -- double check -- that your address line does NOT include maringensoc@rootsweb.com , but rather the address of the individual. (1) Roots Celler and the Sonoma County GS have beeni doing these seminars for years, thus have built a following. (2) The workshops offer a variety of subjects relevant to the genealogy community. (3) The speakers making the presentations have name recognition. (4) The price is good for the time and materials to be presented. (5) The draw to the workshops is a wide geographic area. Those are my thoughts on the matter! 2. After several attempts and much frustration (thank you, Gene, for your patience), the Spring issue of the 2010 Kin Tracer is uploaded to our new web site and ready for you to read in the members-only section. http://mcgs.camp9.org I hope you will enjoy color photos of the children who were winners in our recent 'family history' contest, something we weren't able to do in the past because I have a B/W printer at home. There is a goof-up on page 40 which I hope you will forgive - an n became a 14, but I'm not about to make Gene correct it at this point in the game. This is turning out to be harder than we thought, especially since I have no knowledge of websites. All I do is use them! Cathy Marin Co., CA
