    1. [MarinGenSoc] Moritz P. Fromme, Jr. Obituary
    2. Obituary from unnamed newspaper: “Military Services Held in Canton, April 5, For Capt. Fromme” Military services for Captain Moritz P. Fromme, Jr. were held in the chapel of the Barkley Funeral home in Canton Tuesday, April 5, with Chaplain Darrell Hall, of Scott Air Force Base, in charge. Music was furnished by Mrs. Robert Ayers at the organ. “Pall bearers were Capt. Thomas Stubbs, Capt. Joseph Sulham, Capt. Wayne Corbis, Capt. Albert Seifert, Capt. A. Thompson and Capt. Raymond Goode, all of the Scott Air Force Base. “Burial was in the military cemetery at Keokuk. “An honor guard, made up of members from the Canton American Legion Post, including Russell Burk, Turner Rogers, Paul Freeman, Harold Stow and Merle Althoff, took part in the services. “Capt. Paul Cromwell, a close friend of Capt. Fromme, accompanied the body back to Canton, while Major Vi Peschall, of the Hamilton Air Force Base, accompanied Mrs. Fromme and the four children back to Missouri. “Capt. Fromme, the son of M.P. and Myra Stone Fromme, was born at Mullinville, Kansas on May 1, 1928. He was united in marriage to Lt. Nancy Ray of the Nurse’s Corps at Camp Kokato, Japan, in 1951. To this union four children were born. “Capt. Fromme, who was stationed at Hamilton Air Force Base, California, was killed Tuesday, March 29, when he tried to parachute from a disabled jet plane. He was making a landing approach after a 2 1/2 hour target mission flight over the Sacramento Valley. Approximately five miles southeast of the field Capt. Fromme radioed to the radar-controller he had only “minimum fuel” at 1500 feet altitude. Seconds afterwards, the pilot radioed that he and the co-pilot were bailing out. Rescue squads were immediately alerted, and they searched the area all night. His body was found the next day. Lt. Richard Ratliff, the co-pilot was not found until the next day. “Capt. Fromme attended the Kemper Military Academy in 1945. He took Cadet Pilot Training at Randolph A.F.B. and Barksdale A.F.B. in 1947, and then was with the Military Air Transport at Travis A.F.B., California, before taking part in the Frankfort to Berlin Airlift in 1948. He took Helicopter training at Waco, Texas, in 1949, and then went to Hamilton A.F.B. with the Air Rescue Squadron in 1950. “He was with the 3rd Air Rescue at Johnson A.F.B. in Japan and then took part in the Korean conflict in 1951. It was here that he won two Silver Stars and an Air Medal for bravery. In 1952 he was with the 41st Air Rescue at Lowry A.F.B. at Denver, Colo., and in 1953 attended the Squadron Officer’s School at Maxwell A.F.B., Alabama. In 1954 Capt. Fromme went to the Will Rogers School, Oklahoma City, Okla., for radar approach training. “From 1954 to 1957 he was at Brize Norton, England, and Manston A.F.B., England with the Airways and Air Communications Service. Since 1957 Capt. Fromme had been at the Hamilton Air Force Base, where he had been Chief Controller of the Radar Approach Center. “Survivors include his wife, Nancy; four children, Paula, 8, Robin, 7, Mark, 5 and Lyle, 3; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M.P. Fromme, Sr., of Canton; a brother, Don Fromme, who is attending Boston University; a sister, Mrs. Pauline Polinger of Chevy Chase, Maryland; and other relatives.”

    3. Hi Folks, One of the members on the BOYD-L posted a message about GenCircles. www.gencircles.com I've got goose bumps from visiting this site! While I didn't find any NEW info on my BOYD line there were some other researchers listed for it. I also found two other surnames from my family that has a lot of new info. I'm pumped!!!! Doing the Highland Fling even. Registration is free. When doing searches I find that the more info I used in a search the less likely I was to find a match. So I kept my searches to name, yr of birth and place of birth. That would get me in the ballpark It appears that the search engine doesn't have any leeway on the yr of birth or death. If you have an about, before or after type year you may have to play around a bit. Try to use a yr that is "proven" Submitter info is right at hand but you can NOT save an email address to the clipboard [cut&paste] because it is an image file and not text. But, at least, it is there to copy the old fashioned way. Yours Aye Cal ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! A notice in the paper mentions the death of Margherita Dado, wife of Antonio Dado, native of Nive, Canton Tessin, Switzerland, aged 32 years, on Feb. 2, 1874, at the rancho of Mrs. Wilson in San Antonio township. She left two sons, one of three years and one under 16 months, in addition to her husband. She was taken to Petaluma (Sonoma County) for burial. Perhaps you should check there for cemetery records?
