Hi Paddy, Once you obtain a crew list, you can do as I did with my ancestor Captain Charles Teft Laurence. The crew list gives the last ship the person worked upon. You then gain that information for his last ship from MHA or CLIP and so on back to the ship he was appreticed upon.The other option is to see whether you can get his application for Captaincy. This lists all his ships from his apprenticeship up to his request for Captaincy. Ancestry has these. I shall try for you. He stated that the "coaster schooner" was registered at Goole. I am interested in attempting to discover how long Harry William Byers worked on boats.
