    1. [MAR] More Lidgett ships
    2. The names of some of his other ships were the Governor, the Eclipse and the Free Trade. These were of the John Lidgett and Sons Australian Line of Packets and were all over 1000 tons (1857). Another ship, the John Masterman, was a Government emigration ship (but owned by the Lidgetts) which went to the Cape of Good Hope from Southampton in 1861. Under this advert it says apply to John Lidgett and Sons, Ship and Insurance Brokers. He died 17th June 1861 and left "under £60,000". John Jacob Lidgett married Maria Elizabeth Scott 7/9/1851 at St John's Westminster. This was a C of E wedding in spite of the fact that Maria's father was the Principal of the Westminster Wesleyan Training College. I couldn't find an obituary, which surprised me. Clare Oxford _UK_ (mailto:[email protected]) >Am seeking more information on Mr. John Lidgett who is shown as a Master Mariner when he married in >1828.By 1851 he describes himself as a Ship Owner, of 13 ships (trading as Lidgett & Co or Lidgett & son).
