    3. Hi Pam,   Greetings!  You probably didn't expect a response from me!  I'm on the Mariners List as well!   Having quite a "few" sailors in the family - IDDONS as well as DANIELS - have never come across O.I. but have frequently seen O.S. Ordinary Seaman.  I take it is Frederick Henry we are talking about!   Be in touch.   Jean ________________________________ From: PMR <[email protected]> To: MARINERS Mailing List <[email protected]> Cc: THE SHIPS LIST <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, 3 October 2013, 8:07 Subject: [MAR] (no subject) Greetings Listers             A cousin and I are stumped by the letters describing the occupation of a sailor in the family. It was found on Ancestry as a scan of a hand-written document of about 1860-1862.             The sailor is F H Daniel, aged 21. His occupation looks to be either O I  or maybe Q I. The entry above his was for the cook and the one below for the sailmaker - not sure if these are relevant to his place in the pecking order.             I can send a scanned copy of the document to anyone who would like a look at it.             Help would  be greatly appreciated.             Many thanks.             Pam             Beaudesert, Queensland, Australia ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Greetings Jean Good to hear from you - yes, it is Frederick Henry. I've attached the scan Helen sent me - don't know how to change it from .pdf (which I DON'T like!) See what you make of it.
