I am trying to discover the Official Number of the migrant ship GARRICK, about 800 to 900 tons, which sailed regularly between Liverpool and New York in 1853. The voyage which left Liverpool in September 1853 involved Cholera deaths. One report earlier in 1853 mentions that the vessel may have been American, rather than British. Advertisements refer to the master as Walker and '1800 tons' but the passenger list shows what might be 895 tons. If it was an American vessel, will there be any crew lists or logs available anywhere? Jeff
Hello Jeff, Searched the other "Dramatic" ships to find info on GARRICK. Here's a quote from a 2003 post on an Ancestry message board:"Just found the New York License for the ship Sheridan. Built and licensed in New York on Jan. 21, 1837, for the Dramatic Line. Edward K. Collins was the owner along with 4 partners. National Archives has a large holding of ship license's issued starting about 1790. License gives a brief description of the ship Sheridan as to actual dimentions and tonnage." In National Archives of USA online catalogue there are several files for crewlists *apparently* organized by geographical area e.g.:1) Crew Lists, 1839 - 1909This series consists of incoming and outgoing crew lists. Crew lists usually contain the following information: the name of the vessel and the ship's captainNational Archives Identifier: 4481584Creator: Department of the Treasury. Customs Service. Collection District of Barnstable, Massachusetts. Office of the Collector of Customs. 7/31/1789-1913 2) Crew Lists, 1792 - 1923This series consists of the following subseries: Crew List Bonds, 1818-1899; Crew List Oaths, 1803-1815; Crew Lists, 1815-1817, 1823-1825; Crew Lists and ShippingNational Archives Identifier: 4796024Creators: Department of the Treasury.
