    3. Hi Alan, Further to Joe's info on the ships, here is a little on the company. In 1914 Connell & Grace Ltd was registered and in 1915 formed the Side Shipping Co followed in 1919 by the Quayside Shipping Co Ltd to manage GLENDWR (2,425 tons). In the mid 1920s they registered ships under the Latvian flag and by 1934 were managing 5 steamers. Their AKENSIDE was trading to the Baltic and Continent while the small CARTERSIDE (824 tons) was in the home trades. The larger CURONTA (3,674 tons) (Latvian flag) traded Continent, White Sea, Baltic, Mediterranean, West Indies and River Plate. The fleet remained in this general form but added larger tramp steamers such as SIMONSIDE (4,538 tons). Numbers fell off and during the war the company had only two ships of their own and several managed for the Ministry of War Transport. In all four were lost to enemy action and after the war the company was wound up. Their funnels were painted black with white C & G on a green band bordered by narrow white bands. Info from British Ocean Tramps by P. N. Thomas. best regards Ted On 18 October 2015 at 05:44, Joe McMillan via <mariners@rootsweb.com> wrote: > Hi Alan, > Here are the details for your three ships. > CARTERSIDE > 824 gross tons cargo steamer built 1917 by Bartram & Sons Ltd.--Sunderland > [yard No. 240] > as ENNISTOWN for Town Line [London] Ltd.[Harrison,Sons & Co]--London > 1922 SUNNYCROFT Triumph S.S.
