Hello Alan Joe has given the summary history of the three vessels you mentioned. So far as The Side Shipping Co Ltd is concerned, it seems to have been started about 1914 - at least, that is the year of the earliest ship I have found in their ownership - by George A Connell and George W Grace of Newcastle. It seemsclear that they set up another company, Quayside Shipping Co Ltd after WW1. Most of the Side Shiping ships were standard sized colliers of the period of under 1000grt; the Quayside ships were mostly larger, probably general tramp ships. Side Shipping seems to have gone bust in the early 1930s and was compulsorily wound up in 1932. There is a High Court file at the National Archives about the winding up, which may give some useful details, ref J 13/13078/517. But Quayside went on, apparently under the same ownerships, until the 1940s. There also a Newcastle-based Cliffside Shiping Co, which had no relation to Commell & Grace. Between theri two companies they owned over twenty ships in all. best wishes David Asprey > > -----Original Message----- > From: AFPeggs via > Sent: Sunday, October 18, 2015 12:21 AM > To: MARINERS@rootsweb.com > Subject: [MAR] Side Shipping of Newcastle > > Can any one point me in the direction of information on the Side Shipping > Company of Newcastle in the 1900's in general, and in particular three of > their ships Carterside (140288), Fellside (148064) and Leaside (145455). > > Thanks > > Alan Peggs > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > MARINERS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes > in the subject and the body of the message > > > --- > This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. > https://www.avast.com/antivirus > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to MARINERS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
