Hi Jenny, I would just like to find out if it is true that he was a mariner. I don’t have any references to ships at all, just a newspaper article referring to him as a first officer in 1836, then ten years later the baptism entry where he said he was a master mariner. When he came to Australia he was a farmer. There was a family story that one of my gg grandfather’s brothers bought a ship and traded for some years until he was put to death for piracy. Until those little references cropped up, I had not been able to find any brothers with a maritime career. JRM’s death record doesn’t say anything unusual. He died in India in 1865. Thanks, Barbara
