Thank you Peter, there is no Lady Blackwood in Farrinton's book, Lady Burgess is the first of the Lady ships ie Burgess, Campbell,Carrington, Castlereagh, East, Flora, Jane Dundas, Kennaway, Lushington, Melville, Nugent, Penryn, Raffles and Shore. I searched under Cockerill but there was nothing either. I'll keep looking for other references I did wonder why and HEIC ship would be over near Chile. Many thanks Caroline On 11/11/2011 12:15 PM, Peter Beeston wrote: > Rowan Blackman in "Ships of the East India Company" lists a a LADY > BLACKWOOD, 263 tons bm, built at Calcutta in 1821 for Cockerill& Co. Also, there is no Dibbs in Farrington's other volume -"A Bibliographic Index of East India Company Maritime Service Officers" but I suspect this is because, serving in a hired ship, he was not such an officer. Cockerills were merchants in Calcutta. No doubt you have searched in Google Books for "ship Lady Blackwood Valparaiso"?
