Hi Peter Lived in Lower Upnor on barge Plover in the fifties, and saw many boys climb to the main mast top, one did a head stand up there and another sat on the cap ! Greetings, Many thanks for your reply. I recall running the foreshore, looping up the hill and returning via the sports field. This was when I was young and fit. On one occasion I was invited on board one of the Thames barges moored there. My one and only such invitation. Whether the PLOVER I do not remember. It was in the early 1950's, there was several mothballed naval ships in midstream and a monitor battleship alongside at Chatham dockside. Time has no doubt changed the scenery, with the departure of the ARETHUSA in 1975. Now seemingly up for sale at $6 million, if the e-mail is correct. It's relocation back to Hamburg would place several of the Laeisz ships in moderate proximity. POMMERN at Mariehamn, Finland. PEKING currently in New York, PASSAT at Travernmunde. PADUA still sailing as the Kruzenstern under the Russian flag. Many thanks, Peter On 2011-08-26, at 11:14 PM, Paul Isserlis <paul.isserlis@gmail.com> wrote: > Hi Peter > Lived in Lower Upnor on barge Plover in the fifties, and saw many boys climb > to the main mast top, one did a head stand up there and another sat on the > cap ! > Ps my brother Joseph is the boatbuilder at Fort Edmonton Park. > Paul Isserlis > Canada > > On Thursday, 25 August 2011, <mariners-request@rootsweb.com> wrote: >> >> >> Today's Topics: >> >> 1. merchant shipping ireland liverpool 1880-1910 (Barry Laughton) >> 2.
