BOYNE (1877-1886) Iron ship; reduced to barque 1882. ON 77003. 1403g, 1338n, 226.1x37.1x22.3 feet. 28.7.1877: launched by Oswald, Mordaunt & Co., Southampton (Yard N° 163), and first registered 6.9.1877. 24.4.1882: lost her Master and abandoned when the cargo shifted in heavy weather in the Bay of Biscay (46°N, 12°W), bound Liverpool-Barbados with general cargo. The crew were rescued by the barque ORCHID and taken to Barbados. On the 27th the steamer CHARRINGTON encountered the derelict in 45°N, 10°W and attempted to take it in tow. The next day the crew of the barque CAPE FINISTERRE boarded and also attempted a tow. On the 29th SHEVINGTON at last effected a tow and arrived at Falmouth on 3rd May. 21.6.1886: Stranded near Jagernath Pagoda, False Point, en route Fiji-Calcutta in ballast. Perry and W. Laxon. If yes, I'd very much appreciate a quick look-up for the ship Boyne. I'm particularly interested in the ship's dimensions and any references to her first captain, John Kelly (of Belfast). This Boyne is ON 77003, built 1876, Southampton, 1,351 tons. Thanks very much.
