History of Mare Island.......Ever wonder how places and things obtain there name ....well as you probable know Mare Island was a shipyard....and how she obtain the name Mare Island may surprise you....this is the history. Catapults Come of Age....I come upon this article when in the bowels of the Library.....and 'yes' it may be a tad too detailed for some readers....but as I was going over the material I put myself in the cockpit of those first planes that was shot off a railroad car....and let me tell you folks....I'd be shaking in my boots if called upon to do that..... If your into the history of this sort of thing...then this is the article for you. Leave them the Ashes of the President......This one goes back several years....into the age of sail....and I think you'll enjoy reading about this battle.....
