    1. [MAR] A Ship's Log Question
    2. Barbara Neish
    3. My old Grandfather, Captain James Neish brought the Ship Hindostan, on its Maiden Voyage in a 177 day crossing from Calcutta to England -1813 - February 13 to August 13, 1814 . I knew most on board as I had the Passenger List and had collected much on the history of this ship. What a surprise found its way to my In Box this past week - a lady from the South of France 'found me' somehow and wrote to say her old Grandfather had been the Builder of the Hindostan. I knew this to be so as he is listed, along with 4 of his children. We have enjoyed a wonderful week of sharing our research and history of this Ship. How remarkable, we think, that the Ship that brought our ancestors together, should bring the present generation of the GG-Grandchildren of The Captain & The Builder together, now near 200 years later. Serendipity, at its best ? She has also shared several page of The Log with me - exciting to read (he even made a Doodle on a page - an exotic bird - well done too) But my questions are these :: (1) Most of the Log has been written by one hand but some notations. it appears, by another. Who else aboard would take a turn and writing entries in The Log ? (2) While I have the 'honourables" Passenger List - The Surgeon, two Builders and their family and their many children, I do not have The Crew List. Might someone know if that could be obtained and, if so, where ? Many thanks for all help or suggestions. Barbara Neish - Bermuda
