Hi Faye? >From the 19th Century Newspaper Collection (any typo errors are mine) THE WRECK OF THE PORT YARROCK Aberdeen Weekly Journal (Aberdeen, Scotland) Thursday February 15 1894 Issue 12182 Disasters at Sea Five men drowned at Burghead Yesterday afternoon at Burghead, while a heavy sea was running, one of the salmon cobbles went to put out anchors on the north side of the town when the cobble capsized, and the whole of those on board - five in number - were drowned. Their names are - John BARTLETT, George PARK, Duncan McCLEOD, George THOMPSON, all Burghead men who have large families, and Alexander KEMP, of Findhorn, who also leaves a large family. The body of M'LEOD was recovered, and the others were seen amongst the breakers. Which suggests his body was not recovered, or at least not on the day The mentioned gravesite, do you know he was buried there (from the registers) or from the grave stone, many mariners have a name on a grave to commemorate them but are either buried elsewhere or were not recovered Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > My great grandfather, John Bartlett was a salmon fisherman living in Burghead, Morayshire in > Northern Scotland. > According to records, he drowned in 1894 off of coast at Burghead. He was 48 years old at the > time. > He does have a gravesite in Burghead with my great-grandmother so I guess that his body must have > been recovered. > I got this info from LIBINDEX--a Morayshire research engine. > > My question is where can I find info on fishing boats in Scotland?. > I could not find the name of his boat and have no other family information to go on. > > Thanks for any info.
