Richard, Service records for RN people can be seen at Kew, or at least that's where I have been successful. >From the time of signing to completion of contract the record maps out the individual's entire service career, with ships' names, dates etc. On the papers I viewed it was particularly valuable to find the date and place of birth recorded. Alexandra Hi Brian, You have stated in your email parrocc that Wiiliam Phillips wa married at the Parish Church of Senglea in Malta on the 24th April 1885. If you contact the Senglea Parish Priest he will be able to give much more details than the marriage date if you do not already have them. You can also ask him to send a copy of the marriage certificate if you like to. The email addresses for this parish are isla@maltadiocese.org or islapar@maltanet.net You can also obtain marriage details from the public registry in Malta. All you have to do is to qoute the names and date 0f marriage the email address of the public registry is pubreg.civilstatus@gov.mt Something of interest is that at time time there was a problem between the civil government and the church authorites with regards marriages. If both persons invol ved in the marriage were both catholics, no problems would have cropped up from the Church authorities. But one of the individuals did not belong to the Roman Catholic church they had to apply to the Archbishops Curia for a clearance. This was a procedure at that time which was strcitly observed because the church at that time feared that there was going to be an influx of protestantism in Malta. I have seen some of the applications made to the Archbishops Curia and these were interesting because there were even reports from the Ships Commander about the individual. The Archbishop curia webpage is www.maltadiocese.org. Through the webpage you can send a query. Yes I know that H.M. S Alexandra was in Malta at that time. If I find any info. I will let you know.
