I have in the past received help and advice through the list and am now hoping for some help in tracing my husband’s missing grandfather Harry Harland, last noted in the 1911 census as a 35 year old 2nd engineer (born Whity) on the Vernon in Newcastle. Though married and the father of four he appears to have disappeared from this date and was considered to have abandoned the family and nothing more is known of him. Trawling recently through Find My Past’s Merchant Navy seamen 1918-1941 I have come across the following HARRY HARLAND Card type CR2 Rank or rating MRS Appropriation books RSS BT 348 1921-41 Name and official no of ship 152067 Date of engagement 31.8.1922 I have, through CLIP, found that the name of the ship was PARVATHAVARTHENIE and the port of registry Jaffna. How can I find further details regarding this Harry Harland? Is it possible for me to do this from Australia or should I find a researcher? Any help would be much appreciated, Regards Moyna Harland (Western Australia)
