HI, I have just found this emaill to this list in 2007. Is this Dorothy still n the list please as her Benjamin Arthur Clench was my 3rd Great Gradnfathers stepson when he married Benjamins mother Ann in 1861 and I would like to see if she has any details of my Place family please. A littole information or history of her Benjamin as well would be good for my family history. thanks Edie From: dorothy robertson [mailto: dorothy@dprob.wanadoo.co.uk] Sent: Sun 14/01/2007 20:40 To: MARINERS@rootsweb.com Subject: [MAR] Iron Duke Hi, A relative of mine, Benjamin Arthur Clench was master of the Iron Duke ( 45930 - sic) from 1881 - 1883. His son Arthur Thomas Clench was born on the ship on 14th June 1884 supposedly her last voyage. My first query is, would Benjamin still have been the master then? Secondly The Guildhall Library - Lloyd's Marine Collection Vessel details gives Iron Duke Official No as 45933 built Liverpool and yet on the Lloyd's Captains Registers: Details of Voyages for Benjamin Arthur Clench gives Iron Dukes No as 45930 - sic. Voyage Aust; NP. Also was this Iron Duke a merchant ship or a naval ship I am a little confused I hope you can enlighten me.. Dot
