Hi Mike, There are a couple of censuses that include your John Teare's family, and his probate record is on Ancestry. I am attaching a couple of files for you which I hope will be useful. There are crew lists showing a John Teare, ship's engineer aged 40 ish in the 1920's - too late for your man but possibly a relative? Incidentally William Sansbury Teare married at Liverpool in 1902.
