Regarding, perhaps, a slightly niche area of shipping, recently came across an excellent web site pertaining to vessels attached the Royal Fleet Auxiliary Service (RFA) 1905 -> : whilst not the home page : see below for that : this page is a fine example of the material included on this web site, including vessels in service prior to being taken into the RFA service : http://www.historicalrfa.org/ships-starting-with-r http://www.historicalrfa.org And, whilst probably another niche area, also including RN vessels, but also including many of the more difficult small vessels to track down, from trawlers, drifters, etc. hired by the Admiralty, along with vessels in harbour service and colliers etc. providing fleet services etc: http://www.naval-history.net/WW1NavyBritishShips-Dittmar1.htm and along with these, one shouldn't forget the Navy Lists for pre WWI and WWII and post the end of these wars, which include some vessels not even included in the Naval History Net, which are available from : https://archive.org/search.php?query=Navy%20List The Navy Lists didn't include vessels in the Navy List once the Admiralty realised the value of these books to the enemy during war time !     3. Can sks help me please. Hugh Brown was kind enough to tell me about the S.S.Clallam. she was an American Passenger steamer Built at Tacoma. WA at the Heath Yard. Built for the Puget Sound Navigation Co. On January 8th 1904 in a storm foundered between Smith and San Juan Islands near Holland Point, Straits of Juan de Fuca. Capt's name was Roberts. Is there any records for Puget Sound Navigation Co. or the Clallam. My mothers uncle William Cherrett was one that lost his life Buried Ross Bay Cemetary. Victoria. B.C.(I want to make sure he is our William Cherrett)born Monmouth Wales. Where did he start his career as a sailor. Brenda Melbourne

Hi Jo- Br ship Fanny (Hindmarsh) arrived in San Francisco 7 Oct 1850, 210 days from Liverpool, via Rio de Janeiro, Ste May and Valparaiso, 30th July, 6 passengers (Sacramento Transcript, 10 Oct 1850) also in Daily Alta California, 8 Oct 1850 In further details to the voyage, the ship "FANNY" cleared San Francisco on 26 Dec 1850 for Valparaiso, according to the Sacramento Transcript, 30 Dec 1850. I know it was taken over by the Royal Navy as an examination vessel between 1940 and 1944 but what became of it afterwards. Any information would be gratefully received. Thank you in anticipation. Joe I appreciate what it says at: http://www.clydesite.co.uk/clydebuilt/france/GEORGES_LEVERDIER_968.html but FWIW she was still included in the Navy List for July 1945 : https://archive.org/details/navylistjul1945v3grea but, with disposals, at a time when there would obviously be a lot of changes, I wouldn't be surprised if she should have been removed at an earlier date : see comments per Andy Adams circa early 2008: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/MARINERS/2008-01/1200606888 many of these vessels "were released to take up their normal pilotage duties" from Nov 1944. That said, should the entry in the Navy List be correct, it occurs to me that some of the pilot boats may have been retained in the service until after the end of the War ? I imagine that it would have take some time before the R. Seine, where she I see she is supposed to have ended up after the end of the War, could have been declared safe ?
