I hadn't thought about the Wayback Machine. Of course it is just an archive and it looks as if, in the 5 years that www.unioncastlestaffregister.co.uk was online, only 5 snapshots were taken and not at regular intervals. The last snapshot was taken a year ago. Interestingly there is another email address for Owen Keen on the site (owen.keen@tiscali.co.uk). If you can't find what you need maybe that address is still valid. AVG certainly didn't like the link, I got a swift response from AVG. While I can't find anything on line about these specific websites they are almost certainly carrying Malware or some other rubbish. Roots web filters don't see this stuff as it comes from trusted sources, Members PCs. The owners of the PCs where the links originated from are not responsible, this could happen to any of us. Can I advise you all to download and run Malware detection software such as the free Malwarebytes http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free and rid ourselves of this problem before it gets a foot in.... Hi Mick & all There have been a spate of these spam mails over the last few months on many lists, rootswebs filters do not pick them up as there is nothing to trigger them Any mail with no subject line and just a link in them make them very obvious as spam or malicious The best course is delete and move on Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Morning members > > Please do not follow the links on this post as they look suspect , I will > check them out and get back to you. > > Mick > > Admin

The Wayback Machine appears to be back on line, but I'm not sure if it now carries the information you may be seeking, as some pages appear to be missing or have been removed from the original site ? I did a bit more digging and managed to find his postal address (once something gets into the public domain online it is in the public domain forever) but then came across further information suggesting it is family matters which are keeping him from dealing with the site at the moment and it should come back at some point. So contacting by post may not be the best idea. It seems Chris Isaacs, posting to the thread below has been in contact with him and may be able to give more information. http://groups.google.com/group/british-and-commonwealth/browse_thread/thread/d93cf1ef934f91ac?pli=1 Alan On 09/10/2011 17:08, Mick mick-at-irishshipwrecks.com |Mariners L| wrote: > Thanks Alan > > I fired off an email to the address, it was returned with a failure notice . > > Mick

I don't know if the mail address is still active, but 4 years ago this information including a contact address appeared on the SAIMENA website: "CALLING FORMER UNION CASTLE EMPLOYEES : Owen Keen is compiling a register of Union Castle personnel for his website www.unioncastlestaffregister.co.uk Members who are interested in having their particulars included may contact Owen at <owen@owenkeen.wanadoo.co.uk>" Alan On 09/10/2011 08:39, Mick mick-at-irishshipwrecks.com |Mariners L| wrote: > Morning Roy > > A check on Domain Tools shows the website no longer exits on the server > where it resided and the domain name is due to expire in November, > unfortunately while it gives the owners name "Owen Keen" he has opted to > keep is contact details private. > > Mick > > Mariners List > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From:<Rpelliott2@aol.com> > To:<mariners-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Saturday, October 08, 2011 5:32 PM > Subject: [MAR] Union-Castle Staff Register > > >> Hello Listers >> The Union-Castle Staff Register website >> _www.unioncastlestaffregister.co.uk_ >> (http://www.unioncastlestaffregister.co.uk) "cannot be found". >> Does anyone know if it has been renamed or taken down please ? >> Regards >> Roy Elliott
Thanks for digging, Alan . I think it is a valuable list of hundreds of names of UCL seafarers so let's hope Owen Keen is able to share it with us again in the near future. Roy
I could use some info on a vessel named Cristoval Colon. The only data I have is from the Lloyd's List circa 1825 to 1853, or mayby 1858 (I have not checked out yet my files 1854-58 for this vessel). It first appears as a Swedish flag vessel maily sailing from and to Stockholm, Masters:- Polander (1825); Leming (1829); Behrman (1834-36); Hiedtman (1836-39); Kullenberg (1839-41); Wulff (1842-43). Then is quoted as Norwegian flag, 136 tons. Master:- Ericksen (1845-53), and sailing mostly from and to Skien, only her first entry shows her sailing out from Stockholm, then mostly from Skien. I also found several entries in the "Cargo Bills of Entry" 1850-1854-1855. 1854, master P. Ericksen, Nationality: Norway, crew: 7, one entry gives 160 tons, the next one 142 tons. 1855, gives: of Skien, 142 tons, crew: 8. I could use the following data:- When & where she was built, tonnage, dimensions, class (brig ? barque ?), owners. Thanks for any help given. Alex Mariners-L alex442, alex442@virgilio.it 10/9/2011

Hi Listers Can anyone help ? If a MN Officer was serving onboard an Admiralty requisitioned ship in WW2 would his service under the White Ensign be recorded in his discharge book ? Regards Roy Elliott
Morning Roy A check on Domain Tools shows the website no longer exits on the server where it resided and the domain name is due to expire in November, unfortunately while it gives the owners name "Owen Keen" he has opted to keep is contact details private.
