I am trying to determine the origin of the Alice Martin who married George Clark at Plymouth in Jan 1638/39. She was said to be a kinswoman of my Plymouth progenitor John Churchill of Plymouth. All I’ve been able to find is a Martin family genealogy that names Alice’s father as Francis Martin of Saint Andrew, Plymouth, Devon, England with mother Prudence Deacon. This genealogy claims that this Francis Martin’s father was John Martin son of the Christopher Martin of Mayflower fame. The only Plymouth Colony Martin I have found in the 1639 to 1641 period is the Robert Martin who settled at Rehoboth, Plymouth colony. That Robert Martin was a follower of the Reverend Joseph Hull and was a member of Hull’s party to the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1635. Robert appears to have departed Mass Bay for Plymouth at the same time that the Puritans ran the good Rev. Hull out. Alice can not be a daughter of this Robert Martin. Who was she? I am at a loss. I have searched Plymouth reference works and find no mentions of other Plymouth Colony Martins. Am I missing them? Were there other Martins at Plymouth circa 1640? Any help will be appreciated. Regards, Bill Churchill
