Hello ! have found that my 6th great grandfather, Thomas Sargent, who migrated to Boston, MA from Scituate, MA had a brother, Thaddeus Sargent who married a Susannah(Hannah.Anna) Merret/Merrit in Boston on July 26, 1722 Might this Susannah belong to your Merrit family here? My Sargents have strong ties to Scituate before they moved to Boston and are mentioned in Vital Records of Scituate, MA, pre 1700. Thaddeus and Susannah were at the North Church I believe. I have a copy of the marriage index record. The rest of my Sargents show up at the North church in Boston, and later at the South Church abt 1765, after it split from the North Church. Can anyone help? Did Susannah and Thaddeus(might have been actually called Edward) have children? Who were Susannah's parents? how do the Merrets/Merrits tie into my Sargent family? Thanks for any help, Penny Kresl ----- Original Message ----- From: "Harlow Chandler" <chandler@firstva.com> To: <MAPLYMOU-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, November 20, 2002 7:03 AM Subject: RE: [PLY/MA] Merritt Information > Hi Bob, > > I find I have to leave unexpectedly, but will send this much added in below > and get back to it--Let me know if you alrrady have this sort of > information. > > ***-----Original Message----- > ***From: Bob Merritt [mailto:merrib@alltel.net] > ***Sent: Tuesday, November 19, 2002 6:46 PM > ***To: MAPLYMOU-L@rootsweb.com > ***Subject: [PLY/MA] Merritt Information > *** > *** > ***I am looking for any information that might help in my quest to trace my > ***family's roots. Hi Bob, Below I have entered some information from the Scituate VR which looks as though it might be your line--certainly the later generations seem to be and from there you can probably find ways to check. I don't know anything at all about this family, but there's a book that people seem to refer to a lot and which I see is available in various forms from various places. I'm so confident that the Family History Library has it on microform that I didn't look it up, but that's probably the least expensive way to see it if your local library doesn't have it or can't get it on Interlibrary loan. I saw that Quintin Publications sells it on CD for a very low price--just over ten dollars, but I think there might be a wait. Other bookstores have it as a reprint for more, and the NEHGS version mentioned below is a reprint for about $40--more than other places and probably better quality. You might try the surname lists and boards--probably there's a Merritt out there who owns it and would do lookups and you could find out if it really would be helpful--I actually have no idea, I've just seen it cited a lot. Author: Merritt, Douglas, 1847-1930. Title: Revised Merritt records / Variant title: Merritt family Physical description: 195 p., [5] p. of plates (some folded) ; 25 cm. Publication info: Boston, Mass. : New England Historic Genealogical Society, 1998. General note: Originally published: New York : T. A. Wright, 1916. ***-----Original Message----- ***From: Bob Merritt [mailto:merrib@alltel.net] ***Sent: Tuesday, November 19, 2002 6:46 PM ***To: MAPLYMOU-L@rootsweb.com ***Subject: [PLY/MA] Merritt Information *** *** ***I am looking for any information that might help in my quest to trace my ***family's roots. That's as far as I got in the VR, but online there are indications that this line goes back to the first settlers of Scituate and probably you can verify it all without much trouble. A Google search or Rootsweb's WorldConnect ought to get you to some information you can use as a starting point to verify elsewhere. Good luck. *** ***Any help or directions would be greatly appreciated. *** ***Thanks *** ***Robert "Bob" Merritt *** *** *** ***==== MAPLYMOU Mailing List ==== *** ====MAPLYMOU-L/D Mail List===== *** +-+ Owners = List Members +-+ *** =Administrator Frederick M.
