I am planning a trip to the Scituate, Massachusetts area and would appreciate some information on places of genealogical interest. My maternal ancestry is deeply rooted in Scituate (including the following surnames: PROUTY, TORREY, HATCH, DAMON, HOWLAND, WHITCOMB, ELMES, etc.) Can anyone help me with the location of Hoop-pole Hill in Scituate? Are there any particularly good historic information centers or libraries which would be a worthwhile stop for research? Where can I get information on ship records and passenger lists for the 1600s? Does anyone know how I can locate research already done on the surnames mentioned above? I am also interested in older cemeteries in the area (especially near the location of Hoop-pole Hill). Are there any good resources for information on cemetery records? What is the best source for birth, marriage and death records from the 1600s and 1700s?
