    1. [PLY/MA] RE: Ship Blessing 1639 to 1643
    2. Bill Churchill
    3. Cynthia & Eugene, Thank you for the reply, look-ups and information. Cynthia: I have information for the Richard Martin of Ottery, Saint Mary Parish, who settled at Rehoboth on the holding of his older brother Robert Martin. (Source Devon and various MA Bay & Plymouth Records: accounts, wills, probates, etc.) Eugene: I have quite a bit of information on the Reverend Joseph Hull and am aware of discrepancies as to his date and place of birth. Also, as I recall, he doesn't actually appear in the Crewkerne Parish registers. This raises questions as to his birth in Crewkerne but he, of course, could have grown up there. I am aware of the date discrepancies between the Hull Association and the Weymouth, Dorset sailing records. Joseph was a non-conformist and his decision to remove to New England came about after he lost his living at Northleigh, Devon over differences with his bishop and the Church. Obviously he was looking for a place with a longer leash to the Church of England. It is said that his brother George, who removed to New England in 1630, influenced his decision to go there -- and that would seem logical. (My sources are: Search for the Passengers of the 'Mary and John' 1630, Vol. 14, The "Mary and John' Clearing House. Hull Family Association Journal, Vol. 6, No. 2, 1995. The Hull Family in America by Col. Weggant Hull, Hull Family Association. All secondary.) Cynthia: I am aware of the Plymouth Colony Churchills. The Churchills I am seeking are not in Mayflower Increasings. I'm looking for a John and Mary Churchill with children Isote and John. They were from Ottery Saint Mary Parish in Devon. The last record of them in Ottery was 1641. I believe they were bound for the MA Bay Colony and not Plymouth -- but that is uncertain. They were kinsmen of the Robert Martin who came to Weymouth in 1635 with Hull and eventually settled at Rehoboth, Plymouth Colony around 1640. To my knowledge there are no Plymouth records for them. I wonder if there might be records further north in the MA Bay Colony? (Sources OSM Parish Records, Saint Mary Church and local lore of Ottery.)
