    3. Hi, Dale and all. While I need to dig into some probate records to tie things down (up?), it's looking like my wife is descended from a John Newcomb(e) and Hannah Crowel(l), who married in Salem on 12 Jul 1717 according to the published Salem VRs. But the Newcomb name appears to have come relatively late to Salem. Except for the marriage above and one other, I can find no other Newcomb marriages prior to the 1740s in all of the published Essex County VRs. The other marriage also happens to be in Salem, and it is for a Sarah Newcome and Joshua Connant (as spelled in the published VRs) in 1690/91. I do not yet know if or how this Sarah was related to John above. Since I see that Dale's Roger Conant came to Salem from the Plymouth area, I was wondering if anyone was aware of any other connections between Conant and Crowell families down near Plymouth. I should also note that there appears to be no birth record anywhere in Essex County for a John Newcomb or a Hannah Crowell in 1700 or before. There are, however, several other Crowell marriages in Salem from 1700 to 1735, which conceivably could be for Hannah's siblings (or sisters-in-law in the cases of the widows). All of these Salem marriage (or intention) records fall between 1716 and 1729 and include: Deliverance Crowel to Nathaniel Whitamore (1725), Elizabeth Crowel (widow) to Daniel Abbott (1727), Rachel Crowel (widow) to Paul Kemball (int. 1729), Robert Crowel to Rachel Hillard (1726), William Crowel to Susannah Meservy (1721), William Crowel to Elizabeth Bush (1724), and John Crowell Jr. to Elizabeth Collins (1716). Perhaps one of these other names will jog a memory in someone who will recognize one of them from the Plymouth area. Thanks for any suggestions.
