I'm tracing my HOMES or HOLMES ancestors who purchased at Plymouth, a tract of 100 acres at Broad Bay at Muscongus. I believe the land was part of the Pemaquid Patent. My ancestor, Hugh HOLMES, was one of a number of individuals referred to as the Pemaquid Heirs. The Heirs lost their land in a dispute in the 1760s. Is there any readily available information on the land dispute or the Pemaquid Patent? thanks, Charles
Charles: You will find some history here: http://www.friendsofcolonialpemaquid.org/Phistory.html http://lincoln.midcoast.com/~hgh/ http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/me/maine/landgrants/paper/gy1776.txt I did a quick search on Yahoo--there were many more references. Also try Google.
