I have an ancestor on an early Plymouth “Able to Bear Arms” listing. What was the qualification of being included on the list? Under 17th century English law only a Freeman (freeholder) or above that class had a right to bear arms (i.e. could possess and carry arms by right). All others required permission. I’m curious as to whether the listings represent men of Freeman class? Bill Churchill USA
