It was massive and as you said, it came not only after the WBTS, but also after 15 hard years of Reconstruction as well. It was a horrible time for the city for almost a 100 years after the WBTS. The name of the fault is the Woodstock Fault, ending in Woodstock, NY. When it struck Charleston it was so powerful that it rang church bells as far North as Philadelphia.
