They came from Moray, Scotland - and in particular from the villages of Alves and Spynie (both near Elgin). I know that a John Kintrea (b 16.11.1780) left Moray for Port Glasgow shortly after his marriage to Agnes Gardner on 3rd June 1815, and I have a hunch that they emigrated.
