I don't know about Norfolk Co., but in Middlesex Co. I was able to get the information on my grandparents' divorce in 1935. I knew we can't do mail and phone requests to "Family & Probate Court" for "wills," etc. But, I took a chance that the "Divorce" office -might- respond. I wrote them a slow-mail letter to that office, and several weeks later I received a Xerox copy of the "index card" record of the divorce. There was information on that card that I could use. Betty (near Lowell, MA) P.S. Several researchers and I wrote long letters to the MA Probate Court officials asking that a "Genealogy Office" be set up. It would help both their employees and us. They did respond and said it was a good idea, but they did not have the finances to take on such a project. That was about 2 years ago and I haven't heard anything about it since. Hello, I have a connection to Randolph and Stoughton, MA, one set of aunts and uncles were married there in the 1950's, and continue to live there. And, her parents lived there for a few years (my grandmother and step-grandfather). I just went to find the web site for the Randolph Historical Society and discovered they do not have a good web site. In addition, it is full of annoying "ads." Is anyone a member of that Society and could tell the officers of this? Rather than offering that URL, here is a page which offers their address and phone number: http://www.museumsusa.org/museums/info/1161201 I just checked and the Stoughton Historical Society has a much better web site: http://home.comcast.net/~dalresearch/stoug.htm I have my MA map on my desk, so I just checked and Brockton is a larger city near them. I see they have a good web site. But, I don't see an "Events" page: http://www.brocktonhistoricalsociety.org/ Betty (near Lowell, MA)
Dear Sue, Thank you so much for the information. I'm hoping I'll now be able to find out who the attendants were at this wedding. I really appreciate your prompt response. Would anyone know the name of the church that Rev. J.C. Labaree was associated with in Randolph in 1880? I need this information to send to the church for a copy of a marriage record. I tried to e-mail the Randolph Historic Society, but the e-mail address was not a current one and the message would not go through. Thanks for your help. Mary-Sue
Mary-Sue, A Google search indicates he was involved in the First Church (Congregational) of Randolph. The information is in "History of Plymouth County, Massachusetts" edited by Duane Hamilton Hurd.
