I assume I am reading it right, there's little #'s in the corner of each lot. Then in 1923, Sarah Ross is listed as the owner. In the 1920 census it confirms, she is at 114 Town Hill St. She was born in Scotland. Unfortunately, those are the only years available other than 1876, which is the one I really wanted to see...but I can't identify where the heck the street is...no index like with the other years to tell you what plate # the street appears on. I think you've got to get a look at Deed Book 499, page 109; description of Lot 8, dated November 1873. I don't know if you can get a clerk to look that up for you over the phone or via mail??? Here's a link to their website: http://www.norfolkdeeds.org/ If you want to see all that I just passed on to you, you can also search; click on research online and then free access, then recorded land by name; search and then click on the little tab next to the result that say DOC, and on the left a little box pops up, click on view and you can view the actual documents. Also Plat maps which show land ownership may help you determine who lived there if you can find where to look for the right neighborhood in the right timeframe. Ancestry.com has some for Quincy. It's just time consuming to identify the correct neighborhood, and the correct lot. Oh well... Best wishes! Lisa Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Someday maybe my sister and I will figure out why it says Medford, instead of Reading. Yes the information does help. I just wish we could find out who origianlly built and or lived in the house when it was new. That would be a real plus. I again, do appreciate all you've done to help. Author: lmunnhaynes Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.massachusetts.counties.norfolk/3138.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: That's strange...it definitely said Medford. Reading is a couple of towns away from Medford...not terribly far but far enough, also in Middlesex County. The Mortgage in 1959 that the ladies took out was for $5000.00. It looks like the "single ladies" sold Lot 8 to Alfred Pecce and wife Adelina, in Mar. 1963. It's very hard to read the amount but it appears their mortgage was for $12,000.00. It seems like the Pecces were buying up all kinds of property, which apparently later is referred to as "The Pecce Family Trust" by the late 1970's. It's hard to find what happened to the property referred to as Lot No. 8 from there. Oh, okay...30 Oct 1990 it was conveyed for $1 to Alfred L. Pecce and Robert J. Pecce, Trustees of the Adeline Pecce Irrevocable Trust. Whatever that means... On 31 Oct 1997 they sold it to Richard D. Drake of Braintree for $119,900.00. On 30 Apr 2001, Richard Drake sole it to Magdy Adel Rafla for $270,000. Property now referred to as 114 Town Hill Street as well as Lot No. 8. On 17 May 2004, Magdy Rafla sold it to Steven Austin and Rebecca Chin, husband and wife, for $370,000. It is listed with the 1-4 family rider, and by white pages.com reverse look up, it seems that Steven and Rebecca are still living there. There are also 4 other names that come up so it must be a multi family as you had said. Again, I have no idea if this helps you, but it's information... I don't understand why they say my grandmother lived in Medford. She never to my knowledge ever stepped foot in that city. Other than Quincy, the only place she lived in the states was with my family in Reading MA, where she was in 1959, when she sold the house mentioned. Just goes to show you can't believe everything you read all the time. I do appreciate all your efforts very much. I was spelling both womens' names wrong so it wasn't producing a hit. When I searched you gram's name it came up. You can search this site for free; but to print the records you have to pay; so I will just transcribe what the deed says. "I, Sylvia M. Nelson, of Medford, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, for consideration paid, grant to Lydia M. Ruoppo, a single woman, and May Ollila, a single woman, as joint tenants, both of Quincy, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, with Quitclaim Covenants, a certain parcel of land, with the buildings thereon, situated in said Quincy, being Lot No. 8 on a plan dated November 1873, recorded with Norfolk Deeds, book 449, page 109 and bounded and described as follows: NORTHERLY: By Town Hill Street, about fifty (50) feet. EASTERLY: By Lot No. 9 on said plan, about ninety-five and 05/100 (95.05) feet. SOUTHERLY: By Lots numbered 5 and 6 on said plan, about fifty-three and 5/10 (53.5) feet, and WESTERLY: By Lot No. 7 on said plan, about seventy-six and 6/10 (76.6) feet AREA: 4,293.7 square feet of land, more or less. For reference to title, see Norfolk Deeds, Book 2243, page 137. Being the same premises conveyed to the grantor and her late husband, Alfred Nelson, as tenants by the entirety by deed of Robina L. K. [Purdon] {Purdon typed in above}, dated Aug. 5, 1939, recorded with Norfolk Deeds, Book 2245, page 128. Said Alfred Nelson deceased at Quincy, Massachusetts on Sept. 6, 1941. And we respectively release to the grantee all rights of tenancy by the curtesy, dower, homestead and other interests in the granted premises. Witness my hand and seal this 5th day of August, 1959 Sylvia M. Nelson {signature} COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS Norfolk SS August 5, 1959 Then personally appeared the above named, Sylvia M. Nelson, and acknowledged the foregoing instrument to be her free act and deed before me Donald M. Jackson {signature} Notary Public Recorded Aug. 6, 1959, at 10h, 44m AM" Unfortunately, the previous deeds are too early and aren't online. They would have to be researched in person. I hope this helps somehow. Good luck, Lisa Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. This is the info that I received from a very generous RAOGK volunteer: Vol: 553 ; Page: 376 Lillian Smith June 18 1905 in Roxbury Birth registered in Chelsea Frdk A. Smith x Annie Thorne Residence: 38 Br'dway his occupation is a Lumber Worker born in Newflnd and Hers is NB The only Lillian that I could find that was born June 18, 1905 and has a Massachusetts connect was Lillian Lapham. According to a Thorne researcher here in New Brunswick, Canada, Annie passed away in 1913 (I did find her death record) and had 12 children (8 are listed in the 1910 census). Nothing is known about what happened to the children. Sometimes, if you get lucky, an obituary can fill in alot of the details (or just let you know you are going down the wrong path). Hope this makes sense. Regards, Jerry Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. According to the SSDI, her last residence was Medway, Norfolk Co. Her death date is listed as April 1984, but using the ancestry.com website, it looks like she passed away on April 13th. You can go to Norfolk County Registry of Deeds online and do a "free access" search; but I didn't come up with anything regarding either of these names. I tried an address search and only came up with a deed and mortgage from 2004, apparently not related to these women. The search does go back to the 1940's. I think 1947...maybe if I tried searching using your grandmother's name, something would come up... Lisa Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am the great-great-grandson of the Milton Reamy mentioned in this web-site. Milton Reamy's son was also Milton Reamy the keeper of Minot's Ledge Lighthouse off of Cohasset Massachusetts. His son was my great uncle Octavius Reamy who was also the keeper of Minot's light. Together they were in charge of the lighthouse from 1887 to 1924. My mother, Judith Gail Wood was the daughter of Harriet Reamy and Charles Wood. Harriet was the sister of Octavius Reamy. I always heard that the Reamy family was from Virginia. My mother mentioned Sampsons and Manters as Reamy relatives. My grandmother Harriet Reamy was also directly descended from Miles Standish, John Alden, and William Brewster who came over on the Mayflower to Plymouth. The original connection with the Reamys of Virginia is not known to me. My mother Judith (1915-1987) married poet and professor Joseph Langland (1917-2007). I was born in 1951. I have several realtives from the Reamy side of the family. If you have more information or questions, feel free to email me at the above address. I was about 7 when they moved, so it seems there was a Kathleen, Joseph, and maybe two younger boys. Kathleen would have been born about 1956 or 7 and Joseph about 1958. Another family with 4 or 5 kids moved in after the Gormleys left so I may be getting the number of children confused. This would have been 13 School Street across from an Episcopal church. They were friendly with a Porter family, backdoor neighbors, that may have been relatives. I do not remember the father's name the mother was Jean, there was a boy born about 1952 and a girl Patty born about 1958.
