I know Matt Piispanen mentioned was a member of my grandmothers family, What confuses me I was also told the house was built in 1900. My grandmother even lied(I think) she told us, all our lives that her father had built that house when he came from Finland. His name was Lauri Piispanen, I think his wife Susan (Larson) may have been with him, along with her 23 yr old sone John(I guess 1st marriage for Susan) Anyway someday I'll find the answers. Biding time until then I guess. Barbara Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: Eron50 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.massachusetts.counties.norfolk/3141.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Barbara I'm not sure if this is the most correct information but it may help you on the path. I looked up all Bjornholms born in the Quincy records and found a Toivo Frederick Bjornholm b. 15 April 1906 in Quincy and he died 29 June 1973 in Quincy. In the 1930 census he was married to Ruth. He is the only Bjornholm close to your father's age. Bjornholm's parents were also Finnish. It might be a good place to start. In the directories there appears to be a TF Bjornholm living in Quincy. Perhaps a junior to the 1906 T Frederick Bjornholm. A phone number and address are listed, if you need this information - send me your direct email and I will send it to you. I don't know if it is still valid. I also looked up Keniley's in Quincy. There was a Joseph A. born in 1893 and he had a son Joseph B. in 1918. These would also be the closest in age to your father. Joseph B. Keniley died in 2003. His obituary follows: QUINCY - Joseph B. Keniley, 86, of Quincy, retired maintenance foreman for the Quincy School Department, died Friday at Milton Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Keniley worked for the schools for more than 39 years and retired in 1987. He worked at the Fore River shipyard in Quincy before World War II. He served in the Navy during World War II and was a member of the Cyril P. Morrisette American Legion Post in Quincy. Born in Quincy, he was educated in Quincy and was a graduate of Quincy High School. He was a lifelong resident of the city. Mr. Keniley was a long-time active member of Christ Church Episcopal in Quincy. Husband of the late Pearl E. (Anderson) Keniley, he is survived by three daughters, Doris M. Moore of Quincy, Nancy L. Hallisey of Rockland and Jean E. Dougherty of Trumbull, Conn.; a son, Joseph A. Keniley of Quincy; a sister, Sylvia Cahill of Abington; and 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The Rev. Sarah Conner of Christ Church Episcopal will conduct a funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Ave., Quincy. Burial will be in Mount Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy. Visiting will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. If you are interested in doing follow up with Joseph Keniley's children listed in his obit I found current contact information for them. I will send it in a private email. I hope this helps on your path. I will be happy to send the contact info- just let me know. Erin Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. Any confusion about Hyde Park, MA? Formerly a Town in Norfolk County, abutting Boston, it was annexed by Boston in November 1911. It is therefore part of the City of Boston, and Suffolk County, since then. Requests for records should go to Boston City Hall. In a message dated 7/25/2009 4:33:20 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, cullivans@gmail.com writes: Why do you think Catherine came from Ireland? On the 1882 Boston marriage record, it lists that she was born in Liverpool, England, and she is age 33. (Her parents were Nathaniel and Catherine Lowe.) It does show that this is a second marriage for her. She and Frank H. Pierce went on to have a son, Alvah Henry, on Feb 28 1883. This birth record also shows she is born in England. The 1900 census, however, says she was born in Ireland in May 1848, her father was born in Ireland and her mother born in England. She says she has one child born, one living. 1900 Census also says she emigrated in 1878 and is a dressmaker. (Frank was born June 1851 in Massachusetts.) The 1910 census says she had three children, two living. This time it lists her and both parents' birthplace as Ireland. Emigration is listed as 1875. The Castle Garden records have this immigration record: MRS. C. CLINGEN UNKNOWN 28 F 22 Nov 1876 STATE OF VIRGINIA GLASGOW & LARNE IRELAND NOT AVAILABLE This sounds like your woman. So it doesn't seem like she brought her son John with her. Likely, she left the child at home to be raised in Ireland. He probably remained there until after 1900. Have you looked for the death records of her Lowe parents? Perhaps that is the location you will find the birth record for John. I think they just said John was born in the USA so that he would be an automatic citizen. But this is just a guess. You could always write to Hyde Park and ask for them to do a lookup. 2. Dora Smith
    3. Speaking of names one needs help with, I have two I"m trying to find in the 1880 census. Catherine Clingen, Protestant, came from Ireland in the 1870's, and had a son, John Clingen, born in 1873. She either came alone, or came with her husband and he died, or came with her husband but he went home and died, or they all went home and then she came back, and the child is reported in our records as having been born in Ireland. However, the son's passport application says that he was born 22 July 1873 - and all other records say he was born 22 July 1873. Passport application says he was born in Hyde Park (family records say it was Hyde Park near Boston, but she and her next husband lived in Hyde Park, Norfolk County, in 1910). A family story says that she worked in sweat shop sewing shops in New York City, and worked her way up to become a top high fashion dressmaker. She married a successful man in construction, in Hyde Park, 17 June, 1882. I wonder if she wasn't either in Hyde Park the whole time, or in sweat shops in Boston. On the 1900 census, Catherine says that she didn't even immigrate until 1878. In any case, I can't find a death record for the husband at NEHGS, I can't find the birth of John Clingen at NEHGS< and I also can't find the birth of John Clingen in 1873 in Ireland civil birth records, and I can't find the death of the father in the IRish civil death records in 1872. I can't find either Catherine, born in 1848, or John, in the 1880 census. John Clingen may ahve been in the Royal Irish Constabulary, and a RIC record for John Clinger, died 1872, is consistent, but if it is the same person, he was sure alot older than his wife. Catherine started spelling her name Kate, Katelina, and Katalina, when she came to this country, and by the 1820 census it had morphed into Kathlene (Kathleen), a name that stuck in our family for the next two generations. One year the census was misindexed "Nataline". I tried searching Hyde Park, Norfolk County, which is a small place, for anyone named John born within two years of 1873, and did not find John Clingen. I wonder if anyone might possibly be able to help me find these two people in the 1880 census and the NEHGS bmd database. They may not be in the 1880 census, but John can't reasonably not be in the Massachusetts bmd database unless he wasn't born in Massachusetts, and he said on his passport application that he was. Is it at all likely that he lied on his passport application? Did he have to prove where he was born, or that he was born in this country? Thanks alot! Thanks! Yours, Dora Smith Austin, TX tiggernut24@yahoo.com

Go to Google maps and put in 1250 Hancock Street, Quincy, Massachusetts 02169. http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=Church of the Presidents Quincy&rlz=1B3RNFA_enUS265US305&sa=N&tab=wl&um=1 Use the pan feature to see the T sign - this is where the alley is then pan to see the crosswalk, you have to cross two street - there is an island in the middle. After you get of the T walk towards Hancock Street. If you walk more towards City Hall (can't miss the new addition - it is all glass and sort of ugly)there is an alley way between it and another building with a small park on your right. At Hancock Street you cross keeping the United First Parish Church of Christ (Church of the Presidents) on your right - walk straight to another intersection and the library is right across the street. Another hint; use the "street view" of 1250 Hancock Street which is a red brick building called President's Place this is right across the street from the alley that leads to the T. Use the pan feature on the map to see all the way around. If you inadvertently get off the T and wall just straight (this is Saville Row), you will have to take a right on to Hancock street then cross onto Washington Street - this is confusing as Washington changes to Hancock Street at President's Place (see map). Hope this helps. Susan Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Associated names could help--maybe. Thank you Barbara Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am travelling to England in September to look for my past relatives. Their names were "Neale" and "Fox" and they were born in the Swanton Novers, Bristol, Swannington areas and it looked as though they stayed in this area all their lives. Could somebody tell me where I might find the parish records for their births or christenings, marriages, deaths, cemetery locations for these areas. Thank you for any help you can give me. Disregard John Smith and Sarah Ross; they were on the other end of the street!...I was looking at the wrong lot...in 1923 it is Matti Piispanen on the map, corner of Centre St. In 1907, it looks like it was Lydia G. King. In 1897, it was William Corcoran. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
