    3. Hello, My family has in its possession a "very" small, 1892 book on the descendants of Roger WELLINGTON. It was written by one of his descendants: A. W. GRISWOLD (full name: Adeline Wellington (HOMER) GRISWOLD), and it is mostly about her family. I might be exaggerating if I say it is about 10 pages long, but it is an actual, published book with hard-covers. But, Adeline or someone else wrote additional information on the pages and inside covers and taped 3 death notices to the inside cover. Taking that it came from my great-grandmother's farmhouse in Winchester, we knew that her ancestors were somehow related to the WELLINGTON family, and the keyword is HOMER ! Yesterday I spent some time trying to read the very tiny, pencil-made handwriting in this book, and then, with my family-tree information in mind, did some on-line investigating. I now have a better idea of the family of my ancestor, nee' Betsey HOMER, b1786 in Boston. I'd just like to offer a simple, basic outline of the very extended family of .. Jeduthan WELLINGTON, b1750. With this information, whoever is researching members of this family can use the information to do more research. Jeduthan WELLINGTON, b1750 MA?, seems to be the son of .. Joseph WELLINGTON and Dorcas STONE, m1733, and they had 10 children ! Jeduthan married 1) Susannah REED, b1775 in Woburn / Burlington Jeduthan and Susannah had 8 children: Susannah, Charles, Sophia, Mary, Hannah, Henry, Jeduthan, and Sophia. Susannah d1802. Jeduthan married 2) Mrs. Elizabeth (LORING) (HOMER) WINNECK, b1766 MA? Jeduthan and Elizabeth had 4 more children: Maria, Louisa, Alfred, and Adeline. Jeduthan d1838, and Elizabeth d1851. (I'm not finding marriage dates, and children's birthyears are sketchy in book.) In regards to Elizabeth LORING, b1766 in Boston, married Capt. Jacob HOMER in early 1786 in Boston, and I believe my sister told me that he died (at sea?) while she was pregnant with their daughter, and she was born at the end of 1786. Mrs. Elizabeth (LORING) HOMER then remarried to John WINNECK, possibly around 1790. John and Elizabeth WINNECK had 2 children: William WINNECK, b1793 and Sarah WINNECK, b179?. William grew up to marry Mahala CUTTER, but I don't know about Sarah. I also do not know what happened to John WINNECK. In 1803, Mrs. Elizabeth (LORING) (HOMER) WINNECK remarried to Jeduthan WELLINGTON of "West Cambridge" in the part which became Belmont ! And, Jeduthan and Elizabeth then had 4 children. I read in the book that Jeduthan had a very large house in "Belmont" and there was plenty of room for the 14 or 15 children who came to live in the home ! Miss Betsey HOMER was about 17 when her mother married Jeduthan, so she never knew her birth-father and then had two step-fathers during her childhood ! I said I wasn't going to mention the HUTCHINSON name again this week, but Betsey HOMER married ... Thomas HUTCHINSON, and they had 6 children. :o) Of the younger children of Jeduthan WELLINGTON, he had 2 daughters marry into the HOMER family. Adeline married William HOMER, and Louisa married his brother, Eleazer HOMER. The book says that they were sons of Eleazer HOMER who was a brother to Capt. Jacob HOMER (son of Jacob HOMER, etc.). So, it seems that Mrs. Elizabeth WELLINGTON remained in touch with her HOMER in-law's ! If I think about this, my ancestor, Mrs. Betsey (HOMER) HUTCHINSON, would have had her younger half-sisters marrying her cousins (through her late father's brother). Also, Mrs. Betsey HUTCHINSON died in May 1858. So, this Thomas HUTCHINSON, who owned the land in Winchester, only had one wife ! I hope this helps someone ! I hope everyone in MA is coping with the copious rain ! Am hoping for copious May flowers ! Betty (near Lowell, MA) P.S. I didn't look up the history of Belmont, but I read that part of the "West Cambridge" which became Arlington, became Belmont. And, I read both in the book and in the archives of the Boards/Lists that the WELLINGTON family owned large, important pieces of property in Belmont - some of which became part of the cemeteries in Cambridge ! I also noticed that in the early 1800's, what is now Arlington and Belmont - was listed as "West Cambridge" in the census - separately from Cambridge ! P.S.2 We already discussed the WELLINGTON name in regards to Medford a few months ago, and I think I read that they owned large farms there. Does anyone know whether there was only one WELLINGTON patriarch, and all the WELLINGTON's in the Medford, Arlington, Belmont general area were all related ?? P.S.3 If anyone needs additional information from this "tiny" book, I'll try to find it either in the text or the "tiny" handwriting. As I mentioned yesterday, I am finding out that the HUTCHINSON's were "well to do families" who hung around with "people of great wealth," and the WELLINGTON's were included ! So, I wouldn't be surprised if Mrs. GRISWOLD had this very short book published with her own money. P.S.4 There is a page mentioning that several of the WELLINGTON's are buried "in the old graveyard in Arlington."
