    3. Hello, I have some new information about where the original "Lowell Jail" would have been. I had an idea about it when it was being discussed over the weekend, but I didn't know whether I was remembering correctly. When I drove through Lowell today, I drove down Fletcher St. and found out I was correct. There are 3 old (slate/rock/granite constructed) buildings on Fletcher St. between Dutton St. and Cushing St. The larger one is the site of the long-standing "McKittrick's Hardware Store." There is a smaller building attached to it, but I couldn't tell whether it was used by the hardware store or some other business was using it or whether it is vacant. The other small building is on the other side of Cushing St. and is very similar to the other small one. Any of these 3 buildings could have held a "jailhouse" in the 1800's ! (One thing which confused me is I didn't remember Cushing St., and that is because I found out today it does not come through onto Fletcher St. as it is now designed. And, it looks like that building on the other side of Cushing St. is currently being totally "emptied" - hopefully to be rehabbed.) Betty (near Lowell, MA)
