Good morning, everyone. :-) As of this morning, I am the new County Coordinator for Middlesex county. My responsibilities are maintaining the county web site and overseeing the various town sites. Maintainence is primarily putting information up that is applies to the county as a whole. As the current CC for Essex County, I have been fortunate to get people who are committed to their towns. Consequently, I have heard that many people consider Essex county to be one of the best. I'd like Middlesex to be right up there. Certainly the two counties have considerable ties. Overseeing of town sites is getting Town Coordinators and making sure that they keep their sites up and maintain certain requirements. Most of the towns in Middlesex are in need of TCs. If you are interested, please contact me. This is not a difficult job, except the initial set up. I prefer that sites be hosted on the Rootsweb servers. There are 3 reasons: 1. They are free 2. They are advertising free - these are not the Freepages sites 3. I can access the sites and download all pages as a backup. The main requirements are having the USGenWeb logo on the site, maintaining a Roll Call list, links to neighboring towns, county and state. My requirements are that you have a love of genealogy, history and enjoy helping your fellow genealogists. People commonly request info from me in regard to various towns. I forward those requests to the TC. As TC, you'd need to know where people can go for information. Once things get going, I'll establish a private e-mail list for TCs. You would be required to participate. This is a community. Things are accomplished by cooperating. This is NOT for someone who simply wants a site to put their own views and data. It is for helping others. USGenWeb, http://www.usgenweb.org, is committed to putting all the free information it can online. This is a great opportunity for people who like helping others. Two towns that come quickly to mind are Lexington and Concord where the Revolutionary War began. Anyone who would like to start with these? BTW, I will allow no more than 2 towns per TC. This is going to take some time. I am interested in anything that anyone wants to propose. I want to hear from people about how to improve the site. Lookup volunteers should let me know. If you are oriented on a single town, then that should be noted. I look forward to hearing from you. You are people who have an interest in Middlesex county. Here is your chance to make it a great place to visit online.
