Hello, I keep forgetting which year the Town of Lowell was incorporated. I associate it with the year that the State of Maine became a State (1820). But, I just went to make sure I wasn't remembering wrong, and discovered I was ! The Town of Lowell was founded in 1826 ! I went to the useful web site for the "Center for Lowell History" and found this page which discusses the first, so-called "town meetings" for Lowell and then the first "town hall" built in 1830. http://library.uml.edu/clh/Poll/Po1.Html I also noted that the "first meeting" was held in the "Balch & Coburn Tavern" near the Pawtucket Falls ! (Was that tavern on the northern shore of the Merrimack or the southern shore of the Merrimack ?) Betty (near Lowell, MA) ..
