Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AFB.2ACE/1819.1.3.2 Message Board Post: Oh, the passenger lists esp. for Italians are most definitely frustrating...but I'd still rather be here at my computer looking at them! It is all kind of a process of elimination. You think they came in 1906 (don't count on their answer on a census to be accurate...they rarely are). The hit in NY for Raffaela had an arrival date of 1891. Very little info is given on NY passenger lists, at least in that time period. ALSO important to note is that married Italian women used their MAIDEN names...do you know what Raffaela's maiden name was??? Even my gr grandmother, coming here with 3 toddlers to join her husband is listed by her maiden name, but scribbled in is her married name above her maiden name; and then the children of course are listed by their father's name. First, tell me if this sounds like your Salvatore??? If you think it is...I will save it to my computer and email it to you. Naples to Boston aboard the Cambroman, Arriving Boston on 16 Jun 1903; lines 11, 12, 13, 14: Salvatore Evangelista, age 40, married, Typographer, Destination Boston; Last Residence Napoli; Joining in US: brother in law, Raffaele Magno, 339 Washington St. Boston; able to read/write; good health. Listed with him are: Daughter: Erminia? Or Erminie?, age 14; Son: Antonio, age 9; Son: Giuseppe, age 6 The A. Maria Evangelista you gave is too old to be their daughter...it seems like she may be the sister of your Salvatore: Arriving Apr 1904 Boston: A. Maria Evangelista, age 38, Seamstress; Last Res: Napoli; Joining in US: brother Salvatore Evangelista, 111? or 119 Salem? St. Boston, MA. If you can tell me Raffaela's maiden name...I may have better luck. So far I haven't found an Anna that fits; Italian names are so hard. Maria could be Mariannina, Anna could be, too, as a nickname. I have an Aunt who goes by Jeanette, nickname Jennie, but her given name is really either Giovanna or Giovannina; and of course the transcribers mangle the Italian names because they are so complicated! Well, let me know if this sounds like him and we'll take it from there. Lisa
