    1. ADAMS in Chelmsford, Westford (KIDDER, GREEN)
    2. Betty
    3. Hello, I have the "History of Westford" from the Library for a few more days, and I looked at it this morning for KIDDER, GREEN, and ADAMS information. I found this paragraph interesting: In genealogy section, "ADAMS. The Adams family of Chelmsford and Westford is descended from Henry, who was in Braintree in 1630, and who was the ancestor of two presidents of that name. Three of his sons went to Concord about 1646. Two of them, Samuel and Thomas, removed to Chelmsford in 1654, and were leading men in that town. They were both men of property and contributed much to the prosperity of the new plantation. Samuel built the first mill in the town, on River Meadow Brook, and Thomas settled in the westerly part, near the present residence of Charles Adams. From these two brothers there are two lines of descent, so involved and intricate that no investigator without access to private records can trace them satisfactorily. They cross each other by intermarriages, and the given names in each line are so often alike that the difficulty is greatly increased. In giving the genealogy of the Westford branches it is scarcely practicable to show their connection with the one or the other of the two brothers." How's that for giving you ..hope.. for finding your ancestors ! :o) There is only brief information on: 1) Samuel, who was probably a descendant of Thomas and son of Timothy, of the third generation, m. Elizabeth BUTTERFIELD, 1728. 2) Samuel, m. Elizabeth BLOOD, 1756 3) Thomas, m. Mary MEAD or MEADS, 1759. 4) Samuel is generally designed as "Samuel, the trader," and was probably the son of Samuel and Esther (EMERSON) ADAMS. He might have married Thankful CHAMBERLIN in 1770. 5) Thomas, m. Esther PERRY, 1781 6) Richard, m. Sally FLETCHER, 1806. ... With so little information on "Samuel, the trader" in the Westford book, it is somewhat surprising that "the KIDDER book" has the following information: Sarah KIDDER, b1761, daughter of Thomas "Cornet" KIDDER, married at Concord, MA, 1780, Lt. Samuel ADAMS, Jr., born at Chelmsford in 1747. Samuel was the son of Samuel and Esther (EMERSON) ADAMS. Samuel and Sarah ADAMS had the following children in Chelmsford: Samuel, b1781, Sally, b1783, Mary, b1785, John, b1787 (d1824), and Lucy, b1793 (d1808). Mrs. Sarah ADAMS died in 1854 at Age 92 ! Lt. Samuel ADAMS, Jr., died in Chelmsford in 1816. I'm just offering this as an FYI for ADAMS researchers ! But, if anyone has information on the family of Samuel and Sarah (KIDDER) ADAMS, I'd like to know about it ! Thank you for your time. Betty (near Lowell, MA) FYI: Sarah KIDDER's older sister was Elizabeth KIDDER, b1745, who married 1) Zacheus GREEN in 1765, and had at least 10 children with him ! She then married 2) Frederick BLOOD (no further info). Zacheus and Elizabeth GREEN seem to have lived in Carlisle where GREEN's were an important part of the town. I have just done some on-line investigating about their oldest son, Thomas Kidder GREEN, b1768. In 1793, he inherited his grandfather's large property in Westford, MA, but he seems to have only lived there a few years. When he married in 1797, he was living in Westmoreland, NH (on VT border), and he married Betsey COGSWELL of Littleton. They seem to have had 5 children, 4 daughters, and a son, Cogswell Kidder GREEN, b1809 NH. Mrs. Betsey GREEN died in 1820, and it seems a few years later Thomas GREEN moved to Michigan ! (Ohio?) His daughters might have remained in NH, but his son, Cogswell GREEN, moved to Ohio ! There is information on the LDS site on this family, so someone is reseaching them ! I'll try to find out about the other sons of Zacheus and Elizabeth GREEN: Zacheus, b1770, Isaiah, b1772, Samuel, b1781, Eli, b1783, and Asa, b1785 ! (And about Samuel ADAMS, b1781.)
