Hi Janice... Thank you for the huge amount of research on the Stearns you sent! Wow -- there were a lot of them! My Stearns began with the Isaac who came to America in 1630 and to Watertown in 1631. His son, Samuel, b. 1638 in Watertown. Samuel married Hannah Manning and they had Isaac Stearns in 1674. Isaac married Mary Bemis and they had [Deacon] Isaac Stearns, who married Elizabeth Child in 1729 in Waltham. The family moved back to Watertown. Deacon Isaac and Elizabeth had Joshua Stearns. He married Lois Peirce of Waltham and they had Elizabeth Stearns in 1776. Elizabeth married Joel Smith of Lexington in 1794. Their son, Joshua Stearns Smith married Maria Lawrence of Lexington. These were the grandparents of my great-grandmother, Martha Augusta Smith of Cambridge, MA, born 1872. My great-grandmother had many memories of her grandmother, Maria. Luckily, I loved hearing the stories! Since my great-grandmother died when I was a teenager, I remember the stories and have many of the notes and letters on the genealogy of the immediate family that she shared with her sister and cousins.
