Hello, I usually don't do anything genealogy-related on Saturdays. But, it was such a beautiful, autumn day on Saturday, I didn't want to miss it. So, I made a last-minute decision to drive to Sudbury, MA, and attend a get-together for descendants of Edmund RICE. I arrived in time to hear 2 talks about Edmund's property in 1600's Sudbury and the town as of that time. There were at least 40 people in the conference room, and I got to meet 2 researchers I have e-mailed with. And, I was able to purchase a CD which someone had put together to include 9 generations of Edmund's descendants. One thing I would love to have is a picture of my gr-gr-grandfather, Charles RICE, b1850 Maine. I only have pictures of his 2 daughters, b1870's in Winchester, MA. He seems to have been estranged from them; he and his wife separated within 2 years of their births. But, as I looked around the room on Saturday, I saw that many of the men - looked similar. :o) So, I can imagine that Charles looked at least a little like them. The meeting was held just down the street from the "Longfellow's Wayside Inn" and I discovered there is a "Wayside Inn Historic District." I decided to drive up and down that area and saw some beautiful scenery. There were "soldiers" standing by, and women in "period clothing." And down the street a "horse and buggy" waiting for passengers. Passengers? A bride and groom ! :o) It was around noon and I still had some energy, so I decided to drive to Lowell and attend a meeting of the Greater Lowell Genealogy Club. It was held at the Pollard Library and there were about 12 people in the conference room. A professional genealogist was giving a talk on "finding records." I was a little late, but I heard the 2nd half of the discussion. Afterwards I was able to chat with some of the people. And one lady told some amusing stories about last week's events. (It was mentioned on one of the Lists last week that a Professor from "Oxford" in England was going to be in Boston last week - hoping to meet people who were descended from multiple, 1600's ancestors. As it turned out, this researcher at the meeting qualified, and she went to meet him. She said it was an interesting meeting, and she did participate in the DNA test.) (I had e-mailed the Professor, but he didn't respond. The announcement stated that he wanted "documented proof" of the descendancies, and this lady provided it, and I couldn't do that.) :o( Just an FYI for you ! Betty (near Lowell, MA) (I was also reminded on Saturday that there are many researchers who are senior citizens and they sometimes need help when they want to attend a meeting. Either they no longer have a car or they no longer drive at night, and perhaps volunteers could help them.) (I also saw how easy it is to hook up a "projector" to a "laptop" - and show pictures on a screen ! I guess I need to get out to more meetings !)
