    1. [MAMiddle] Carleton Homer HUTCHINSON (ROSS)
    2. Betty
    3. Hello, I have an old tintype picture of my great-grandmother's only maternal cousin, Carleton Homer HUTCHINSON. So, I've been trying to gather information about him. From information I just looked at this morning at www.familysearch.org and combining it with notes I took at the Registry of Deeds this week, it seems that my Carleton lived most of his life in MA. Contrary to what I've posted in the past, this seems to be closer to what happened: George Homer HUTCHINSON (1843-1907) (Winchester and Arlington, MA) had 2 marriages. He first married Mary WRIGHT of Concord, MA, and they had a son, Carleton Homer HUTCHINSON, in 1870. The couple seem to have separated soon after and Mary moved back to Concord. The 1880 census has George living with his 2nd wife: Amy (?) HUTCHINSON, 26, born in Nova Scotia as did her parents. (I don't recall at this moment whether I've found out her maiden name.) I don't know if George had more children, and I don't know what happened to Mrs. Amy HUTCHINSON as the 1900 census shows George living with sister, also divorced, in Arlington, MA. He died in 1907. The census page says that George had been married at that time for 25 years and no children are mentioned. That puts that marriage ~1875. I'm not finding an Amy HUTCHINSON in Middlesex Co. in 1900. Back to Carleton, he seems to have married a Caroline "Carrie" HENEFELT / HENFELDT ~ 1897 in Cambridge. They had a daughter, Gladys HUTCHINSON, in 1898 in Arlington or Winchester. And then had a son, Leslie Loring HUTCHINSON, there in 1901. The 1900 census has the couple living in Arlington. That page says that "Carrie" was 19 and born in 1881 in MA, but her parents were born in Germany. I'm not finding the correct Carleton in Middlesex Co. in MA in 1910. But, Carrie HUTCHINSON, 29, is listed as living with a couple in Cambridge and having her children, then 11 and 9, with her. She said she was divorced. Carleton had a 2nd marriage in 1910 to Mabel ROSS. She was 30 and had been born in St. Andrews, New Brunswick, and her parents were John T. ROSS and Abigail MALONEY (that couple divorced?). I don't know of any children born to Carleton and Mabel HUTCHINSON. If I find the correct couple, there is a Carleton and Mabel living in Hanover, MA (Plymouth Co.) in 1920. I'm not finding the couple in 1910. In 1920 it says Mabel had come to US in 1884 and no children are mentioned. (I don't have access to the 1930 census from home.) Carleton died in MA in 1962. I don't have further information on Mabel. At the Reg. of Deeds I found Carleton mentioned as having a mortgage in Arlington in 1919. And having a mortgage in Medford from 1924 to 1935. I don't believe I found a "will" for him, but I might have forgotten to check. This him owning a property in Medford in the 1920's does not correspond to him being in Hanover in 1920 unless they moved back to Medford after 1920. (I still don't know where Carleton died in 1962.) One researcher at the WorldConnect Project says that the 1930 census has Carleton and Mabel living in Littleton, NH. Betty (near Lowell, MA) (I know I have to make a trip to Waltham and Boston this winter to see if I can find more information on Carleton.) (More information is in archives of the Lists.) (It seems that ROSS was a popular surname.)
