    1. [MAMiddle] James Marshea, jeweller, Cambridge
    2. Hello, I am new to the list and trying to find family information on James W. Marshea, born in Liverpool in 1845 and settled in Cambridge by 1880. James was a jeweler. His wife was Julia ? and there were 3 children, Marian, Florence and Charles. This family has ties to my Rawlins family. I would appreciate any information that can be added. Thanks, Bev W

    3. Hi Bev, This seems to be the family in the 1880 census: MARSHEA, JAMES WM (1880 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS , MIDDLESEX, CAMBRIDGE Age: 33, Race: WHITE, Born: ENGL Series: T9 Roll: 543 Page: 183 Julia is 36, and only the daughter, Marian, 13, is mentioned. There is a possible brother listed, with a wife, Alice, who was born in Nova Scotia, as were her parents. John is listed as a "chandelier maker." MARSHEA, JOHN D (1880 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS , MIDDLESEX, CAMBRIDGE Age: 32, Race: WHITE, Born: ENGL Series: T9 Roll: 543 Page: 178 In 1900, the family is living in Watertown, and the son, son, Charles, 17, is also mentioned here. MARSHEA, JAMES W (1900 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS , MIDDLESEX, WATERTOWN Age: 56, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: ENGL Series: T623 Roll: 667 Page: 226 I'm not seeing John in 1900 but he's in Boston in 1920, and he's been married for the 2nd time, to a wife, Millie, who is also having her 2nd marriage. MARSHEA, JOHN D (1910 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS , SUFFOLK, 10-WD BOSTON Age: 62, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: ENGL Series: T624 Roll: 617 Page: 282 I tried an alternate spelling, MARSHEE, and nothing came up. I tried MARSHE and that seems to be a separate surname. I tried MARSHA and there are people with that surname; in 1880 mostly in NY. Oh, here is John in 1900 with that spelling in the Index; it looks like MARSHEA on the page. Here is wife is Emily, and they have an infant daughter, Dorothy. RAWLINS is not a popular surname, but I did find this man. But he seems to be either a patient or worker at the "Holy Ghost Hospital" in Cambridge. (The handwriting is bad in one corner.) RAWLINS, WILLIAM (1900 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS , MIDDLESEX, 1-WD CAMBRIDGE Age: 51, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: CANA Series: T623 Roll: 656 Page: 141 and RAWLINS, GEORGE O (1910 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS , MIDDLESEX, 11-WD CAMBRIDGE Age: 25, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: ME Series: T624 Roll: 597 Page: 149 Betty (near Lowell, MA) ----- Original Message ----- From: <user917826@aol.com> To: <MAMIDDLE@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, March 20, 2010 6:49 AM Subject: [MAMiddle] James Marshea, jeweller, Cambridge > Hello, > > I am new to the list and trying to find family information on James W. > Marshea, born in Liverpool in 1845 and settled in Cambridge by 1880. > James was a jeweler. 2. Hi Betty, Thank you so much for the information. James Marshea Jr. and family came to NYC on the "CUBA" along with my ancestor Samuel Rawlilns. By 1880 Samuel was living in Brooklyn. Marshea's father was also a jeweler and Samuel's father was a "watch finisher". They seem to have at least known one another if they are not related. Both families in England traveled around a bit which makes me wonder about a familial connection. Marshea is an unusual name. I will also check out the Rawlins families you found. My Samuel died in 1884. His German wife remarried and a fair amount of family information was lost to us.
