    1. [MAMiddle] KERR, DUNN family photo ~1910 (EMMONS)

    3. Hi again, I'm thinking more about this old family photo we have and I'm thinking now it was taken ~1910. I don't know what the occasion would have been for the "aunts, uncles, and cousins" to be together. Gathering my thoughts, we have my grandfather, George, around 18, and his kid sister, Ruby, around 12. His mother, Mrs. Elizabeth (HANNAH) KERR, then a widow, who would have been in her 50's around 1910. We have her married daughter, George and Harriett DUNN, and their young son, Leroy. And, her oldest child, daughter, Louise KERR, who never married. There is a Jane KERR around 75, and my mother thought she was a neighbor, but she could have been an aunt she didn't know about. But, Jane resembles Elizabeth. There is also Mrs. EMMONS and Goldie EMMONS, probable daughter, and we have no idea who they were. Without knowing the mother's first name, I'm not sure I can find the family in census records. In 1920 there were several EMMONS families in Everett, but none in 1910. In 1900 there were only about 70 people in MA with the EMMONS name; in 1910 ~90; in 1920 about the same. They seem to be standing / sitting in front of a large, wooden, apartment building. In 1910, the widow, Mrs. Elizabeth KERR, was living on Curtis Place in Medford with 3 of her children, Louise, George, and Ruby. I believe I read in the past that Curtis Place was a row of "tenement buildings." KERR, ELIZABETH (1910 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS , MIDDLESEX, 5-WD MEDFORD Age: 52, Female, Race: WHITE, Born: SCOT Series: T624 Roll: 602 Page: 198 (Her unmarried brother, George HANNAH, was living with them.) This is when George KERR met his future wife. Mary DEXTER left "The Temporary Home" in Boston to move in with her girlfriend's family - a SMITH family on Curtis Place in Medford. George and Mary sort of eloped on Christmas Eve, 1911. They walked 5 miles to the home of a minister in Malden to ask him to marry them. So, the photo would have been taken before they married. Mary was not present in the photo. Betty (near Lowell, MA)
