I have heard of others living on Chestnut St. in Cambridge. I believe there were several rooming houses there. Hello, I was just telling some people about the 2 "apple orchards" near my home, and I went to find out if they had web sites. One of them is the "LUPIEN apple orchard," when I searched for that, I discovered that a member of that family in past decades was a professional baseball player, and he played for the Red Sox, etc. http://www.historicbaseball.com/players/l/lupien_tony.html http://bioproj.sabr.org/bioproj.cfm?a=v&v=l&pid=8523&bid=713 http://www.thedeadballera.com/Obits/Obits_L/Lupien.Tony.Obit.html The Lupien Farm Stand is only open in the fall and only open on weekends. The older couple had decided to retire and not open the stand again. But, I drove by this week and discovered they had changed their mind. (Good apple pies) :o) The HILL family owned the Apple Orchard in Westford for a long time. But, I haven't found out who the original land owners were yet. http://www.monadnockberries.com/hillorchards/hillorch.htm .. I just checked census pages, and the first time I see the LUPIEN name is 1880 and a family is in Wayland, MA, and a family in Lawrence, MA, and both couples had come down from Canada. This seems to be the man who started the family in Chelmsford, or the 2nd man: LUPIEN, CHARLES (1910 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS , MIDDLESEX, 6-WD LOWELL Age: 33, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: CANA Series: T624 Roll: 600 Page: 62 LUPIEN, ULYSSES A (1920 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS , MIDDLESEX, CHELMSFORD Age: 36, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: MA Series: T625 Roll: 706 Page: 193 Whoa ! HILL is a very popular surname. Over 3000 HILL people in the 1880 census in MA, with almost 800 of them in Middlesex County. By 1900 there were only half as many people in the state. Oh, here is another case where the Index has Arthur HILL in Westford, when the actual page says he's in Westford. And in 1920, there is a HILL in Westford in the Index but on the actual page I can't even read the name of the town. Just an FYI for you. Betty (near Lowell, MA) P.S. I had mentioned maybe last fall that the PARLEE and LOISELLE name is present in Chelmsford, and those families seem to have come down from Canada right around 1900. P.S.2 I had written to the New Ipswich, NH, Historical Society during the summer to ask if they could tell me a brief history of the "Reuben KIDDER Apple Orchard" in that town during most of the 1700's. But they didn't respond. The "town history" states that Reuben's "apple cider" was famous throughout northern New England. And, I have a suspicion that Reuben's father had an "apple orchard" or some type of orchard in Chelmsford. Thomas KIDDER had a large property in the section of Chelmsford which annexed off to become Westford; unfortunately he died suddenly that day. I think I found out where the "homestead" was, way over near the Littleton line, and there look to be some type of fruit trees in the area.

I have asked about this before, but maybe we have some new people who might be able to help. My g-g-g'father, William Kelsey, came to Cambridge around 1842 from England. Wife Elizabeth. Several children. Family owned and operated furniture company until well after 1900. I have lots of information that I am more than willing to share. There was another Kelsey family in the area--Thomas Kelsey, and Henry J. Kelsey. On the census, their occupations are sometimes listed as in the furniture business, so I feel quite certain that there is a relationship between the two families. I just can't prove it. Does anyone have any more information on a possible connection? I just found one family: REEVES, ALEXANDER (1900 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS , MIDDLESEX, 2-WD EVERETT Age: 55, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: MA Series: T623 Roll: 658 Page: 171 His parents were born in Scotland. They probably had 2 older children. There were other people in either Everett or Malden, one man born in England. -- Oh, they just mentioned the late actor, Christopher REEVE, on TV. STEVENS? I see that was a popular name. Almost 350 people with the name just in Middlesex County; but not a lot in Malden and Everett. They were mostly born in New England, but some born in Canada. As with my other posting over the weekend, I was hoping to find some connection to my KERR ancestors who were buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett in 1902 and 1904. No other person was buried with them. But, the REEVES and STEVENS (old) stones were directly beside them. In regard to their children, the only adult child I don't know about was Hannah Jane KERR, born ~1860 Canada. There is a good possibility she could have joined the rest of her family as a married woman, and I have no idea what that name would be. By the way, I just rechecked and Robert and Eliza KERR are not in the 1900 census - that I can find (born 1827 Canada). And, I'm not seeing their son, William KERR, in 1900; he died in 1905. William and Elizabeth are in 1880 census. By the way, they were all born in the Prov. of Quebec, but the families lived north of the St. Lawrence River. So the census pages only say, born Canada, and not "French-Canada." Hello, I usually don't do anything genealogy-related on Saturdays. But, it was such a beautiful, autumn day on Saturday, I didn't want to miss it. So, I made a last-minute decision to drive to Sudbury, MA, and attend a get-together for descendants of Edmund RICE. I arrived in time to hear 2 talks about Edmund's property in 1600's Sudbury and the town as of that time. There were at least 40 people in the conference room, and I got to meet 2 researchers I have e-mailed with. And, I was able to purchase a CD which someone had put together to include 9 generations of Edmund's descendants. One thing I would love to have is a picture of my gr-gr-grandfather, Charles RICE, b1850 Maine. I only have pictures of his 2 daughters, b1870's in Winchester, MA. He seems to have been estranged from them; he and his wife separated within 2 years of their births. But, as I looked around the room on Saturday, I saw that many of the men - looked similar. :o) So, I can imagine that Charles looked at least a little like them. The meeting was held just down the street from the "Longfellow's Wayside Inn" and I discovered there is a "Wayside Inn Historic District." I decided to drive up and down that area and saw some beautiful scenery. There were "soldiers" standing by, and women in "period clothing." And down the street a "horse and buggy" waiting for passengers. Passengers? A bride and groom ! :o) It was around noon and I still had some energy, so I decided to drive to Lowell and attend a meeting of the Greater Lowell Genealogy Club. It was held at the Pollard Library and there were about 12 people in the conference room. A professional genealogist was giving a talk on "finding records." I was a little late, but I heard the 2nd half of the discussion. Afterwards I was able to chat with some of the people. And one lady told some amusing stories about last week's events. (It was mentioned on one of the Lists last week that a Professor from "Oxford" in England was going to be in Boston last week - hoping to meet people who were descended from multiple, 1600's ancestors. As it turned out, this researcher at the meeting qualified, and she went to meet him. She said it was an interesting meeting, and she did participate in the DNA test.) (I had e-mailed the Professor, but he didn't respond. The announcement stated that he wanted "documented proof" of the descendancies, and this lady provided it, and I couldn't do that.) :o( Just an FYI for you ! Betty (near Lowell, MA) (I was also reminded on Saturday that there are many researchers who are senior citizens and they sometimes need help when they want to attend a meeting. Either they no longer have a car or they no longer drive at night, and perhaps volunteers could help them.) (I also saw how easy it is to hook up a "projector" to a "laptop" - and show pictures on a screen ! I guess I need to get out to more meetings !)
A Charlestown Street directory from around that time will list his street address and from that you may be able to determine what church, if Catholic. Hello, When I visited the Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett a couple days ago, the only way we could find the KERR stone was to find out the surnames on the stones on either side of it. As it turned out, there was no surname on my ancestors' very small stone. A researcher has given me the very good suggestion that I find out who purchased the 3 stones. That way I could find out if there was some family connection between them. Unfortunately, my sisters and I did not write down the information on the stones for REEVES and STEVENS. I will try to call the Woodlawn Cemetery tomorrow, but they are getting strict about genealogy-questions. In the meantime I was wondering if anyone researches these surnames. They are old and small stones so I'm guessing the people died around 1900. Betty (near Lowell, MA) P.S. My sisters reminded me that my grandmother on the other half of our family tree is also buried at the Woodlawn. She is buried there with her 2nd husband, Herbert and Clarissa FRANCIS. (We might be attending a funeral for one of their granddaughters this month; she is losing her battle with cancer; Age 50) (My grandparents on that side, through the 2 marriages had 9 grandchildren. My grandparents on the other side had 22 grandchildren, and, so far, we've only lost one. He died of a heart attack as he slept; Age 66, exactly as his father did.) (Lots of life-threatening diseases came down from our ancestors - to my parents' generation. But, so far, my siblings and cousins mostly have Auto-Immune Diseases. Different times !)
Greetings: Would anyone know what church Rev William Phillips worked in in 1839 in Charlestown ?
Hi Tami, Thank you for the offer. I have 2 people on my extended family tree who died in 1950's and/or 1960's, and I don't know where in MA they died. Carleton Homer HUTCHINSON, b1870 Winchester or Arlington. He seems to have moved around within New England. But, the SSDI has him dying in MA in Aug. 1962. No town or city is listed. I'd like to find an obituary for him but need the town or city. Joseph KERR, b1867 Canada, married near Boston, MA, and went with his brother to Washington State 1890's. Brother, Robert, lived a long life there. But Robert's obituary in 1950 stated that Joseph was then living back in MA. No town or city mentioned. Joseph would have been in his 80's, so he might have been living with a relative, or in a nursing home when he passed. At that time, his parents and siblings in MA had long-time passed. Betty (near Lowell, MA) (Oh, I don't think I mentioned in my post query yesterday that I found out the parents, Robert and Eliza (HENDERSON) KERR, were the only ones in their burial site. When I visited it, I was hoping to find out if their son, Joseph, was buried with them.) (I don't think he was buried with his older brother, William, in Malden.) (On my to-do-list is visiting the Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose; that is where William and Mary McINNES were buried in the 1920's. I doubt Mary's younger brother would have been buried with them.) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tami Johnston" <seekinmyroots@gmail.com> To: <AZPIMA-L@rootsweb.com>; <CTNEWHAV-L@rootsweb.com>; <ct-cemeteries@rootsweb.com>; <johnston@rootsweb.com>; <mamiddle@rootsweb.com>; <manorfol-l@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, September 18, 2009 6:24 PM Subject: [MAMiddle] Ancestry LookUp Offer ... > Thanks in advance. > Tami Johnston > New Orleans, Louisiana, USA > www.johnstonfamily.tribalpages.com > www.arnoultfamily.tribalpages.com > >

Tami, thanks for your offer, I am looking for info on Col. John J Leroy (LeRoy) who was born in 1822 in New York. He is listed with his wife Anna M. and son Albert H. b.15 Dec. 1888.in the 1900 census for North Adams, MA. but not in the 1910 where Anna is listed as widowed living with Albert in North Adams, MA. His son Albert attended school there and later became the sheriff of Schenectdy, N.Y. where he lived with his wife and four children. (1930 census) He may have married before as he was ~ 50 years older then Anna when they got married in 1886. Hi, Was he a manager for a furniture store? If so, I have looked through the old newspapers through 1950 and did not find a funeral announcement or obit for he. The one that was a furniture store manager was still living in 1950 so I quit looking.
