Hi, Betty, Thank you for responding and for these web sites. No I haven't contacted with them but 2 wonderful gals, cousins, came forward yesterday and together they are going to get it done for me. What a gift! Janet Hi Janet, Have you contacted both the Wakefield Town Clerk and the Library in Wakefield? http://www.wakefield.ma.us/public_Documents/WakefieldMA_Depts/clerk http://www.wakefieldlibrary.org/ I don't think you mentioned whether the people died in Wakefield, but, if they did, the Town Clerk should be able to give you their dates of death. And you can ask the Librarians if they will try to find an obituary for you. And maybe there is a "cemetery office" where you can ask for information: http://www.wakefield.ma.us/public_Documents/WakefieldMA_dpw/cemetery Betty (near Lowell, MA) P.S. I research the CROSBY families in Arlington, MA, 1800's (formerly Cambridge and West Cambridge, MA in 1700's). Hello, There is a new "consignment shop" in my area and I've visited it a few times. In one cabinet there is a small collection of very old photos and a couple tintypes, etc. I had some extra time yesterday, so I asked the lady behind the counter if any of the photos had names on the back of them. Several of them were done at a photography studio, so the photographer's name was on them, but no name of the person. We did find one photo of a pretty girl who was between 12 and 14, and her name seemed to be .. Edith SIZE. (I know a family with the name, SIZER, so I don't know if they are variations of the same name.) Also in the collection was a "taxi-cab operator's License." (Is that the correct term?) I didn't write down the man's name, but I think it was Antonio TUPELA or TUPELO. (sp?) And the license was issued in Medford, and includes a picture of Antonio. I didn't buy the items, and, if they've been there for several weeks, they will probably be there for another few weeks. Two weeks ago there was a large photo of many people attending a Lodge meeting in the 1940's in Chelsea. I think someone bought it. Another consignment shop I visit has a small collection of school photos. I think they are from the Greater Lowell area. (I have no connection with anything being sold in consignment shops.) Betty (near Lowell, MA) (That is until I attended an Estate Sale last week. I purchased 6, small boxes of misc. items for $10. Inside one box was a few pieces of English china from the 1890's. A lady at a different consignment shop said they might be worth $40 to $70 apiece.) :o) FYI: Researchers on the "British Home Children" List are always hoping to find a "trunk" which the thousands of children would have used when they were being shipped out of England (or the U.K.) ("Over 100,000" needy children were shipped to Canada between 1860's and 1930's. Some with parents' knowledge; some with no. Some were orphans; many were not.)
Hello, I have an interest in a LINNEHAN family which seems to have lived in Lowell or Chelmsford in the early 1900's. There were several in the 1920 census in Lowell. I'm curious about a "LINNEHAN Farm" in Chelmsford which was near the border with Westford. I'd like to know how long it existed. In the 1950's, part of the farm was used for other purposes. In the 1960's it was sold out of the family. This name is not on my family-tree. I'm interested in it for "town history reasons." A specific family I'm looking for in Greater Lowell was having children in the 1920's (or 1930's). Betty (near Lowell, MA)
I've "rescued" an old tin type photograph that is identified as that of Otis T. STEARNS. There is no studio or location indicated on the photograph so I've no idea where it might have originated from. The photograph was likely taken between 1880 and 1900 sometime with Otis appearing to be in his teens or 20's at the time. He appears to be wearing a double breasted white jacket almost like that which a chef would wear today. Based on limited research I was able to locate a possible match as follows: Otis Thayer STEARNS b. 9 Dec 1872 in Hopkinton, MA to parents Lucinda GRANDY (b. 6 Jul 1831 in Warren, VT) and Gilbert Alanson STEARNS (b. Hopkinton, MA). The couple had 9 children including Frank Gilbert; Arba Bates; Allie May; Alanson Banks; Loton Grant; Fred Lincoln; Arba Grant; Otis Thayer; and Archie Carl STEARNS all born in Upton or Hopkinton, MA between 1856 and 1875. Census records provide the following information: 1910 census of Waltham, MA: Otis T. STEARNS, age 39, married 12 years, born MA, parents born MA/VT, a Store Manager Jessie E. STEARNS, wife, age 36, married 12 years, 2 children/2 living, born MA, parents born MA Elton O. STEARNS, son, age 8, born MA Ruth M. STEARNS, dau, age 3, born MA + 1 lodger I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that the photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

Hi Listers, Looking for marriage information of Mary Louise Burke (18 yrs. ?) to Max Golden (34 yrs.?) in Massachusetts, probably 1929. Mary's father is Thomas Burke, mother is Mary (Cunniff) Burke. According to 1930 census Max came from Austria to USA in 1910 and in 1930 was a baker, living in Medford with Mary's family. Any help is appreciated...thank you! Hello, Someone has gotten me thinking about my grandmother's story this morning. I've told it many times. But, one piece of information has always been more of a mystery. On her marriage certificate she stated that her birth-father was William CLARK. This was Christmas Eve, 1911 in Malden. No one in my current family knows who this William CLARK was, and we didn't know that she had any information at all about her birth-parents. * But, I just checked census records. During the 1920's, my grandparents were living in both Somerville and Medford, and they were still having children. (They had 9 children, but 3 died as babies during the 1920's.) And, in 1920 there was a William CLARK, 72, living in Somerville with his wife, Edith: CLARK, WILLIAM H (1920 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS , MIDDLESEX, 3-WD SOMERVILLE Age: 72, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: CT Series: T625 Roll: 718 Page: 84 He seems to have been born ~1848 in CT, and my grandmother would have been conceived in 1888, possibly in CT. As I've mentioned before, her adoptive mother's father was James CLARK, who is one of my "concrete-block walls." He was born ~1790-1800 "somewhere." He arrived in RI ~1827 and married in nearby MA in 1829. He fathered a daughter in 1836, and then "disappeared" in 1844. His daughter, Mary Anna CLARK, somehow met John DEXTER of Killingly, CT. Some have suggested that there were CLARK families in and around Killingly at the time, and perhaps Mary had visited her father's relatives ~1850. For this morning, I'm just wondering if anyone has researched this Willuiam CLARK. Or, does anyone know a different William CLARK who would have known the DEXTER and YOUNG families in Killingly, CT, during the 1880's? Enjoy "autum in New England" this weekend ! If only by on-line photos ! Betty (near Lowell, MA) * While in her adoptive-parents' home from ~1890 to 1899, she overheard information which told her that they knew, and other people knew, who her birth-parents were. To my knowledge, they never told her who they were. (And, she knew their only grandchild, Earle YOUNG, of CT who visited their home many times. But, his mother went to her dying day proclaiming that she didn't even known her parents had adopted a little girl. My grandmother was ~7 years younger than Earle.) My grandmother: Birth-name Daisy WATROUS - for unknown reasons, Feb. 1889. Adoptive-name Mary Anna Clark DEXTER in Mar. 1892, after the adoptive-mother's maiden name In 1899 she went to an orphanage in Boston and might have been known there as Mary CLARK, instead. ~1903 she went to live in "The Temporary" Home in Boston (not too far from the orphanage) ~1909 she went to live with her girlfriend's family in Medford. There she met "the boy next door." On Christmas Eve, 1911, they walked to Malden to ask a Minister to marry them. Mrs. Mary DEXTER d1899 in Melrose, and Mr. John DEXTER d1905 at the Tewksbury State Hospital. We believe he kept in touch with his adoptive daughter. But, it seems he was estranged from his birth-daughter in CT. She did not come up to visit him, and she didn't arrange for his burial in MA. Greetings Listers, Below my signature is a list of volumes and page numbers for marriage records between 1841-1850 in the NEHGS Mass Vital Records 1841-1910 on-line database that are NOT on the FHL microfilm and therefore are permanently unavailable. Sam Sturgis, NEHGS database webmaster, has asked if I would let him know if there are any images coming up "image not available" that are not on the permanently unavailable list. For those subscribers to the database, please keep an eye out for not yet connected images as you search the database. For this 1841-1850 time frame, Sam has added just under a thousand images to the database over the last week or so. If in prior searches, you got the "image not available" field, please try again. Richard died between 1900 and 1910, and Amelia/Emily died between 1910 and 1920, Here is what I know about them and their children: Richard Blennerhassett was born in Ireland between 1835 and 1840 based upon US Census ages. He died between 1900 and 1910 in or near Cambridge, Massachusetts. Amelia was born in Ireland between 1846 and 1848 based upon US Census ages. Her maiden name was HAGGARD per her daughter's (Mary E. Blenerhassett, b. 28 May 1871 in Lynn, Massachusetts) birth certificate. She died between 1910 and 1920 in or near Cambridge, Massachusetts (possibly the Cambridge City Home). Richard and Amelia were married in 1860 in Ireland. In the 1870 census they are residing in Hartford, Connecticut listed as Richard and Amelia HASSATT with children: Sarah, 8, b. Ireland Arthur, 5, b. Ireland Elizabeth, 3, Connecticut Richard, 1/12, Connecticut Living next door in the same multiunit dwelling is Arthur and Margaret HASSATT with children Arthur and John. I don't know if/how these families are related. In the 1880 census they are residing in Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts listed as Richard and Emily BLENNERHASSETT with children: Sarah, 18, Ireland Arthur 16, Ireland. Eliza, 12, Massachusetts Mary E., 9, Massachusetts Thomas R., 4, Massachusetts Richard's brother, John Blennerhassett (b. 1838 in Ireland), is residing with them. In the 1900 census they are residing in Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts listed as Emily and Richard B. HASSETT with one child (Rolland, 22, Massachusetts). In the 1910 census Emily Blennerhassett (widow) is living in the Cambridge City Home and the records show that she had 8 children, 5 still living. More on the children... Son, Arthur, married Jennie M. ___ in 1890. They had 2 daughters, Temple and Elizabeth Blennerhassett, born in the Boston area. Daughter, Elizabeth, married George William Cole in 1891. One son is Clarence Archibald Cole, born in Brookline, MA. Daughter, Mary Ellen, married Wallace Alexis Tobey in 1890. They had 2 children, Maybelle Pauline and Chester Wallace Tobey born in Cambridge. Does any one have connections with any of these folks? Are there records for the Cambridge City Home, the last location that I have for Emily/Amelia Blennerhassett? Are there any online records for cemeteries in or near Cambridge? What newspapers should I check for obits? Please point me in the right direction to find the details! Thanks for your assistance. Lorie ****************************************
