Somewhere is the book he created of records on my RUSSELL family that had to include LAMBERT, BUTLER records too. I have found one living descendant but she has no idea where book would be. My great grandfather copied some records from this book in 1921. Does anyone know if the Godfrey Library in CT., still has this database? 3. Susan, I'm replying to all for the benefit of others who may not know about changing an e-mail address on the lists. The administrator can not change your address except by unsubscribing you under the old address and then re-entering you with your new address. The correct way, and the best, is for you to send an e-mail to MAMiddle-request@rootsweb.com with the word unsubscribe in both the subject and body. Then, using your new address, send to the same address with the word subscribe in the subject and body. This makes sure that your address is correct because the list software gets it from the headers. Note the -request in the address you're sending to. That is where requests are handled. 2. Hi Betty, Thank you so much for the information. James Marshea Jr. and family came to NYC on the "CUBA" along with my ancestor Samuel Rawlilns. By 1880 Samuel was living in Brooklyn. Marshea's father was also a jeweler and Samuel's father was a "watch finisher". They seem to have at least known one another if they are not related. Both families in England traveled around a bit which makes me wonder about a familial connection. Marshea is an unusual name. I will also check out the Rawlins families you found. My Samuel died in 1884. His German wife remarried and a fair amount of family information was lost to us. 3. Hi, The address is: http://genforum.genealogy.com/ It is a free site. You can post questions on the forums for different surnames or places. Just below the word Genealogy.com is a link that says Chat. Just click on that and choose a user name and password. If you are running a PC, download Ichat as the chat client. I chat is a very small program that gives you all the bells and whistles for chat. If your computer will not let you download Ichat, then, when you log into room, choose either Java Lite or HTML as the chat client from the drop-down box. You must have Java installed on your computer to use Java Lite. Ichat is the default and works the best. You may get a little dropdown box just below your toolbar to activate Active X. That only happens the first time you log in. Be sure to click on that little dropdown box. It's usually Yellow in color. You won't get that if you are not running Vista. :-) It may sound confusing until you see the actual log in page and read the instructions. It is a lot of fun and we have some great people who are always willing to help. 1. [MAMiddle] Famous Artist WILLARD LEROY METCALF, b. Lowell, MA. 1858
    2. Saw the same spot on Antiques Roadshow early this AM - he was WILLARD LEROY METCALF. (b Lowell, MA, 1 July 1858; d New York, 9 March 1925). American painter and illustrator. His formal education was limited, and at 17 he was apprenticed to the painter George Loring Brown of Boston. He was one of the first scholarship students admitted to the school of art sponsored by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and took classes there in 1877 and 1878. After spending several years illustrating magazine articles on the Zuni Indians of New Mexico, he decided to study abroad and in 1883 left for Paris. There he studied at the Acad?mie Julian under Jules Lefebvre and Gustave Boulanger. During the five years he spent in France he became intimately acquainted with the countryside around the villages of Grez-sur-Loing and Giverny. He returned to America in 1888 and in the following spring exhibited oil studies executed in France, England and Africa at the St Botolph Club in Boston (e.g. Street Scene, Tunis, 1887; Worcester, MA, A. Mus.). The appraiser said the artist had the last name, METCALF, and he was born in Lowell. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willard_Metcalf http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/roadshow/archive/200701A18.html I took a quick look at census information and there were a few METCALF's in Lowell, MA, in the late 1800's. But, I'm not seeing an obvious couple for having Willard in the1880's. Just curious if anyone has a "famous artist" on their family-tree. Betty (near Lowell, MA) P.S. "This Old House" is on now, and they are working on an old house in Roxbury, MA. And they just did a little segment on the very early history of Roxbury. A house built in mid-1700's and a wooden-church built ~1800 - are not something people usually think of when thinking about Roxbury. FYI: Roxbury is a neighborhood within Boston, Massachusetts USA. It was one of the first towns founded in the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1630. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roxbury,_Boston To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to MAMIDDLE-request@rootsweb.com with the word "unsubscribe" in the subject and the body of the email with no additional text. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to MAMIDDLE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
